Hi guys, I have been posting under my personal account until now. We are very excited to be working with forum member Mattles, in fact he is coming to our facility tomorrow for more testing. We are working hard to get the most power we can out of this high strung 2.0L, without sacrificing driveability and keeping the AFR within a safe range. I'm happy to see that Subaru/Toyota left a little power on the table that the aftermarket will be able to unlock.

I am waiting to finalize the design of our kit before I post pictures, but I think you guys will be pleased with the OEM look and feel of our product. We tend towards a less flashy, high quality OEM feel with our kits. This one will have the option to install the noise maker tube (we call it a car kazoo) or delete it, and the install will be 100% bolt on and pretty easy to perform with hand tools.

We started this project with a trip out to Toyota HQ for a SEMA sponsored Measuring Session. We got to meet some cool people from Scion and other aftermarket companies, and you could feel the excitement in the air as we all got to tear into the FR-S for the first time. Here is a pic from MotorTrend.com.

We brought two 3D scanners to gather data, and were able to use the scan data to begin 3D modeling immediately. Once the first concept was modeled up I built the parts on our 3D printer and returned to CA for a test fit at Toyotafest since there were no cars available in AZ yet. Keep in mind this was the same week that Pekingduck got the first car.

By the time I had the second prototype ready I met a local First 86er, Matt, and he has generously allowed us to borrow his car for testing. He will be the lucky beta tester that gets to give us feedback on our prototypes and will have the very first production parts on his car. He will be back soon for more in-depth dyno testing.

Please keep an eye on the MAF readings from idle to redline. Past n/a Subaru engines have had oscillation issues when the Heimholtz resonators were removed.

We'd also appreciate an AFR graph on the dyno as well.

Thanks.

Draco, we are on it. I probably shouldn't divulge too much of our testing procedure on the forum, but I can tell you that we use a flow bench to simulate MAF readings before the parts are ever installed on a car. Then we spend a lot of time test driving in real life situations with a close eye on the scanner to make sure the car is acting right.

Without these tools you are only guessing. You might make power by leaning out the fuel mixture, but it causes an unsafe condition for the motor. At the other end, you may fatten up the mixture and mpg goes out the window. Our kits are always designed to run perfectly out of the box, no tune required. Of course a good tune can usually add some power, and we are all waiting to see with this car. As an FA5 owner I have spent some time on the Honda forums, and it bothers me to see people post "Yeah that's a good intake, but it requires Flashpro to run right," because it's just not true.

Can you point me in the direction of some of the past Subaru problems, just so I can read up on it?

Thanks, that's an interesting read. I have not seen any problems like this, and it's a totally different setup, but it doesn't hurt to be aware of past problems and solutions.

Hello 86purity,

Yeah we have been very excited for this car and have been working on the design and development for a while now.

I have a feeling this community will be very pleased with what we end up releasing.

Thanks,
David
