I can't find the relevant posts. Can we start over?

I think an important question to ask is, "what even is cruising?" Can anyone even define it? And why is it we've been led to believe that lower RPMs is better for cruising (whatever it is)? This reeks of the kind of disinformation automakers were free to feed us before the internet. Now we know better than to believe the engineers who are only interested in selling more cars.

Personally, I believe if the engine is running, it's all good. Especially if the funny clock in the middle of the dash is still moving around. I mean if you do something wrong, you'll get an error message and then just stop doing that. You people worry too much.

Also, what is a RPM?

Cruising is when you are maintaining a consistent speed. Remember, if you need to accelerate you can always downshift.

Both.

The EA-81 is a very common conversion to aircraft engine but many of the Subaru auto engines have been converted to that purpose. They are typically purchased used and rebuilt, or sometimes purchased new.

Very easy to find multiple examples on the web. There are companies that will do the work.

According to who? Is there some sort of authority that decides what can or cannot be classified as cruising? If there is, I defy that authority! I - and only I - will decide for myself what is cruising!

What if I want to upshift to accelerate? Who is to deny me this pleasure? Too many of we drivers act as if us are bound by laws of physics. The only laws I am bound by are speed limits!

This doesn't even begin to address the idea of what is a "need." I feel we cannot understand cruising until we address the base urges and "needs" of humankind. Where is that discussion!???

Dude, give it up with the trolling. Ask Toyota/Subaru/every car manufacture why they call it "cruise control". You set the speed and it cruises for you.

I looked it up. This is interesting. I couldn't find any real details on what modifications are made though aside from using carburetors. When I have more time I will dig deeper because I find this interesting.

Corvair and Porsche engines are also commonly used. There are even some that have used Honda Goldwing engines (also boxer)

Budget ones do it a straight conversion by adding reduction gear since the auto engine spins too fast for a propeller (You have to keep propeller tips below supersonic speeds).

More top end ones convert them to two plugs per cylinder, beef up the camshaft, and some other changes you might do if bumping up horsepower. Many keep the fuel injection rather than carbs.

Just because my cruise control is activated does not mean I am "cruising". "Cruising" is a state of mind that cannot be dictated by corporate or governing bodies.

You are right, bkharmony. As I remember, the speed could vary and it was very much a state of mind -
