Lets Talk Component Speakers

I haven't found a thread on here dedicated to the discussion of component speaker systems. I figured I'd start one. I'd like this thread to be a discussion of speaker systems and installs.

In looking for speaker systems for my BRZ I've discovered that St. Louis has a lack of quality audio shops so the internet is really the only place I can go to get an information on component speaker systems.

I know 2forme is running a set of Hertz Hi-Energy HSK-163's. That's what I was planning to install as well, but I'm open to other suggestions.

What are you guys running? How do you like them?

really depends on your budget. focal makes some really nice stuff. Dynaudio makes arguably the best 3.5" mid money can buy. (Esotar2 E430) Scan Speak and peerless make excellent woofers (6.5 illuminator or 8" relevator) and (SLS or HDS) respectively For tweeters it really depends on your preferences. i'm going to run Dynaudio Ecotar E110s

not to thread jack but does anybody know if an 8" mid/woofer with 4.1" mounting depth will fit in the doors? i want to avoid running a sub and the scan speaks (8" relevators) can play down to 20hz efficiently.

Yeah those 8 inches would fit in the back. I guess your could dynomat the whole area behind the rear speakers and put in that 8 inch woofer. Or build some kind if smallish subwoofer box back there.

Im running Hertz Mille 3ways. It sounds ok.

Id say unless you want to go active and all that jazzzz to pass on the HSK163's. Granted they sound excellent, they are wayyyyy better active with a good amount of power. Also their passives are pretty damn big that come with them.

I would say just get a set of JBL MS-62C's. They are a great set of components that work well with a varied amount of power.

Aside from super custom setups.... thats really the only 2 choices I think people need for comps on this car lol.

Active with ~75ws/6ch= HSK163
Passive with 75-150ws/2ch = JBL MS-62C

Now... for either... pick up a roll of your fav deadner and do your doors and door panels. Make some quality MDF adapters or plastic whatever your crazy brain prefers, and do the install right. Shit will sound legit and you will be happy at either price range.

im running focal 100 KRS on the dash with a Hertz mille 6.5 component sub (didnt use the Hertz tweeter, used the focal tweeter from the 100 KRS). All off of factory amps and HU. Sounds perfectly clear and I can turn the volume all the way up to full on the Fujistsu-Ten with no distortion. Also has plenty of volume and the Hertz give me enough bass, although adding a sub would add more, id prefer to just stick with what I have than add more weight.

Also did a similar set up in a customers car as described here:

dont want to put them back there. I'm running 3 way active so i would like to keep everything in the front. i think it should be fairly easy to do will require cutting of the door panel though.

im going to build a 2 piece mount about 1.5" tall might have to trim the metal a little bit but hopefully not much. sound deadening and CCF will be slightly excessive to help them with fidelity. i'm running Dynaudio Esotar E430 mids and i really haven't decided on tweeters yet.

I'm installing a custom 3-way active setup when I get back. It's a 6.5", 4" & 1" comp set. I have a JBL MS-8 to help process everything, using a 160.2 amp for the doors & a 100.4 amp for the dash. I had them briefly installed in my tC and they sounded great & got really loud.

Not yet sure how much I want to invest at this point but I spent some time at one point in the past working for a company that sold, among other things, Focal (pronounced Foe-Kal for anyone curious) speakers and they are absolutely amazing.

I think youre looking in the wrong forum for decent audio advice. www.diymobileaudio.com would be more suited for this.

There are a few FR-S threads already there with good contribution.

There are a few of us here that are on there also, there is a lot of questionable advice going around no doubt though.

I was wanting to go with a 3 way set but there aren't a lot of options out there so there is nothing wrong with sticking with a 2 way component set.

It's hard to recommend anything without knowing the budget, planned amp setup, listening preferences, etc.

it really is like 95% budget 4% being able to get it installed correctly 5% taste, 5% speaker preference and 1% other stuff.
