I'm still holding on to hope of a decent low-weight, rwd, manual, non-hybrid FA24(?) second gen BRZ/86. I'm also holding on to hope of a new Z from Nissan, but that's a whole new thread...

But I'm also happy about my current setup - a 2018 BRZ PP manual with (now) and Edelbrock SC. It's the perfect amount of power for the weight and balance of the platform.

Sure, you can go big and turbo, built block, etc. But it's just the right "Goldilocks" amount now.

I'd still keep my current setup over a 2.0 automatic Supra any day. I actually think the Civic Type-R would be a much better car and value (even at fwd!) than the 2.0 Supra in auto only. Come on, BMW/Toyota - at least give it a 6-speed manual!

I look forward to a 3.0 Supra someday though. I'd have to ditch the third pedal...that's hard. We'll see...

I waited years for a new Nissan S16??

Never ever happened.

Strangely all the car forums and news sites (click click click) kept saying it was, but it never happened, so, when I wanted a new toy, I got a 86 and played with that, simples.

My options here and now in AU for new RWD, coupe, manual 4 cylinder

Price in AUD (not that that's what it would cost you #broker):

Toyota 86 35-44k
BRZ 38-44k

And then....

MX5 RF 50k
Mustang 56-57k
BMW 4 series 80-92k Cayman 982 135-200k

The elcheapo twins are really quite good bang for your buck.

So good infact, I sold my stage 2 2015 STI and grabbed a 2017 limited edition, threw on some rims, wheels, coilovers, exhaust, a turbo and a tune for less than it costs to buy a Mazda RF. It's so much more fun than the STI, and now modified, outperforms it.

Warranty you say, meh, if shits gonna break it will break in in the first 20km of me thrashing the car, once warmed up, out the lot for its first outing of bedding in the brakes and breaking in the engine.

Then it's a game of dice, with a budget for new stuff.

If you cannot afford to own two modified cars, you cannot afford to own one modified car.

Plus, stock cars are boring.

Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda mumble mumble mumble mumble mumble mumble mumble

^You mean $50k Supra.

Though at $50k or $60k, I can't afford it

Just sit back and relax for few years. You might not need to spend extra $12k. Still tentative though

woah.

btw, I just got around to reading the interview on supramkv but all the 86 stuff was snipped out. Are you able to let us know all the stuff you discussed?

Looking through that thread, the only thing I caught was that it will be a different engineer.

Just don't get too excited yet... Tada-san haven't promise anything (for Supra).

Haha yeah, 86 stuff have snipped out due to off-topic for the Supra interview. We discussed a lot of stuff he & his team had to go through and/or wish it went through to make it happen. Example, Racing data log. 86 have black box that keep data that can be replay at Gran Turismo (except early BRZ). Technically system it self is still available... but not for US. They tested in US with FR-S owners (back in'13). There were few hurdles they needed to go through... but never happened. btw Supra will have this system already. I need to find few programmers that can make an app for track and race geeks who's interested in this system and Tada-san and his team will give program to go into the Supra system that able to see any data that Supra's black box rec. Sadly, I have been busy, I haven't found any team who's interested in doing that yet.

As for new 86, I can't say much yet... but few things I can say.
- All engineers from Toyota who worked on 86 left. Not 100% on Subaru side.
- They're looking into different direction for new 86/BRZ.
- Expect to big price bump along w big weight bump as well.

Haven't seen any official specs, but from what I heard, it's not 86 anymore. Few time, I double checked to see if they were troll (cuz I'm the youngest in the group)... but they weren't trolling. I'm not the only person saying this. Moto-san and A70 (from Supra forum) stating, next gen 86 is disappointing. Me, you can say, I might be BS'ing or trolling... but Moto-san & A70 are legit ppl w legit source from inside Toyota.

Um... atm yes. Unless, they're trolling me & everyone else, future of 86/BRZ isn't looking good.
