IS the OEM break pads not enough for daily driving ?
or is it only go bad if you go track ...
I have a 2010 car and since last maintenance I was told I only
used up 10% of my oem pads thus far. (( I do not like to use the break ))

The brakes im sure will have plenty of bite. You only notice brake fade on a track, even for autocross you probably wouldn't notice the brake fade at all.

you wont have to remove the GT part because some countries are getting it as Toyota 86 NOT GT86

Big calipers don't mean crap, it's all about pad compound and cooling.

Case and point:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-lightning-lap

Moral of the story, even with the larger rotors and big brembo calipers, the pads were not up to snuff for repeated lapping abuse. Nismo made a better compound pad that held up longer, but still faded earlier than they should have.

You can pick some fashion of the following for pads:
low dust
low noise
cold stopping power
low fade resistance

-or-

high dust
high noise
high temperature stopping power
high fade resistance

Stoptech Street Performance or Hawk HP+ are good pads that straddle the line between this and are trackable, but they dust like hell and are hard on rotors. (I've used both) I now use the stoptechs as rears and a Stoptech ceramics as frots for DD, swapping for Porterfield R4 at the track.

Measuring my brakes with a infrared pyrometer after tracking, proper ducting to the hub of the rotor dropped my temperatures by 150+ degrees.

Can't go wrong with Ate Super Blue and some Titanium backing pads to prevent heat transfer to the fluid either.

These magazine guys faded stock pads and fluid on a racetrack. I'm not surprised, and anyone who is has never dealt with putting serious heat in their brakes. Ask anyone who HPDEs, Time Trials, or w2w races and they'll agree with me.

I wonder if these press cars are so abused the pads were probably already shot by the time they got to them.

I'm sure Chris Harris knows the difference between worn out pads and overheating pads.

So, the OP is whining that a low priced street car with last-gen parts-bin Subaru street brakes is allegedly having brake fade on a racetrack.

That's not a surprise whatsoever. Is the OP advertising another classic case of overextended expectations?

Furthermore, there have been many options mentioned: early STi BBK conversion that Greddy did, the TRD BBK, simple track-compound pad swap.

Now, the whole rest of the article, other than the one line the OP is hanging onto, echos the sentiments that every other media outlet has concluded; a fantastic driving car.

And those comparing it to the John Cooper Works MINI, the JCW MINI starts at $30k here in the US. That is around $7k more than what we expect the FR-S to cost here.

That supports my decision to wait a year or longer for a STi Version with supercharger and suitable brakes.
Hmmmm....

That doesn't square with some other reviewers with more single session track time. Guess we'll just have to wait until somewhere who knows spends a day at their favorite track with an educated nose and foot and an infrared thermometer.

Thanks I know & that's what I've stated in my first post (1st page). OP stated that he wanted bigger brakes, so I've given another option (other than waiting for STI ver).

I see no brake cooling and too small brake discs.
And it depends on the track. Our Hockenheimring would kill the brake after 5 laps on a hot summer day. Even a Cooper S with stock brake cooling but just 1 piston brakes and small brake discs got a stuck piston(!) after some laps.

In my opinion the GT86 is just the base model of a growing model line and doesn't need to be capable of sustain a track day because it's made for sporty driving on public roads. This is important to know because some people are eating every bit the Toyota marketing throws out.
