Better gearing? Didn't it get a tad shorter?

It did, that's why I added the blurb about revving it to 8k. I know guys are already running the car to 8k or higher but I have concerns about doing that.

IMHO the 2017 would have been a better car with its gearing on the nationals courses this year and most of the courses I've driven this year, with an 8k redline.

I kind of agree on the gearing, just look at the ND's, people thought their 2nd gear would be problematic.

When I test drove the 2017 BRZ last night, I specifically tried to pay attention to the gearing. 1st gear seemed to pull good, once through the torque dip, and 2nd gear was OK but was definitely shorter. I think I saw max of 54mph in 2nd gear, but I was obviously not pounding it against the limiter as it was brand new.

Also kind of hard to draw a comparison with my tuned/bolt-ons car and a stock one. Having the torque dip again was awful, hah.

54?! That's major. I tag 62 at the limiter in 2nd...

Based on stock tire size I think the theoretical is 57. If you have a 7800 RPM redline the 4.1 results in a 62mph redline, with the new 4.3 gearing it's 59. If you rev to 8000 it's 61.

Keep in mind 54mph was not on the limiter, I remember the shift light just came on and I backed off and saw the 54mph.

I get to 61mph in my car with 7600rpm limiter.

14.1 AUTHORIZED MODIFICATIONS
All Solo® Rules Stock Category allowances, plus all allowances contained
in 14.1 through 14.10.
14.2 BODYWORK
A. Pedal cover kits and other interior cosmetic accessories may be
added. “Dress-up” items such as chrome dipsticks and non-standard
filler caps are permitted, provided they serve no other purpose.
B. The driver and front passenger seats may be replaced, with the following
restrictions: The seating surface must be fully upholstered.
The top of the seat, or an attached headrest, may not be below the
center of the driver’s head. The seat, including mounting hardware,
must weigh at least 25 pounds and must be attached using the OE
body mounting holes/studs. Additional mounting points may be added.
C. Factory rub strips, emblems, mud flaps, bolt-on front valance lips/
spoilers, and fog lights (except those integral to a headlight or turn
signal) may be removed. Rear wings may be removed so long as the
vehicle retains any federally-mandated third brake light.
D. Alternate steering wheels are allowed except that steering wheels
with an integral airbag may not be changed.
E. Fenders may not be cut or flared but the inside lip may be rolled to
gain additional tire clearance. (The outer fender contour may not be
changed.) Plastic and rubber wheel well splash shields may be modified
for tire clearance and to accommodate a rolled inside fender lip.
The modifications may serve no other purpose (e.g. air intake, brake
ducts, etc). No other changes to the stock fenders or wheel wells are
permitted.
F. Addition of spoilers, splitters, rear wings, bumper covers, valances,
side skirts, and non-functional scoops/vents is allowed provided that
either:
1. It is a production part which is standard or optional equipment of a
US model of the vehicle.
82 — 2012 SCCA® National Solo® Rules
2. It is listed in the vehicle manufacturer’s US accessory catalog
for that vehicle for normal highway use. This does not allow for
parts sold through a manufacturer’s performance catalog (e.g.,
Ford Racing, HPD, MazdaSpeed, Mopar Performance, Mugen,
NISMO, SPT, TRD, etc).
Parts must be installed as directed by the manufacturer. Exact replicas
(including weight) from alternate sources are also permitted.

I realize these are "silly"; but if you've seen my car in person lately you'll immediately understand the plan I'm hatching.

F:1 says you can

Your reason is a little more... extreme, but I have them for the same reason and I'm not sure it worked. You'll have trouble mounting, one of mine needs professional help unfortunately, on the side I had an incident and the body isn't perfect... It needs to tape to the side.

I have fought this already.. As Bart said .."short answer is YES.. there is a bit more to it.. as it falls under "model" As it is offered as optional Equipment in the BRZ Accessories Brochure. I use it for Protection more than anything... otherwise the rocker panels and front bumper take a Beating as you well know. had mine on for over 2 years now.. with multiple National events.. and didn't have an issue...

From Fastrack:

"Street Touring
#19962 Is this legal for a STX BRZ/FRS?
Per 14.10.B, OE traction control systems may be electronically disabled. Members are encouraged to understand the limits of the allowances, whereby 14.10.B only applies to OE traction control systems and such devices may perform no other functions."

Did I miss out on some sweet rules-gray-area cheating? :P
