My BRZ Saga

Well after two years of waiting, it feels good to say that I am for sure getting a BRZ.

There's a bit of a story and I just had to share:
So our local dealership here in Hawaii isn't affiliated with Subaru of America. So that means that our dealerships (there are two stores under the same company) didn't take pre-orders for the BRZ and instead decided to sell the cars based on a lottery system.

Basically what you had to do was enter today, and they'd draw names next Saturday to see who'd get the right to buy the car. Kind of f**ked up in a way but at the same time kind of fair to everyone.

Well I showed up late today (1 hour before closing) to enter the lottery, only to discover that NO ONE had entered for the WRB Premium I wanted (they also had an Aspen White Limited auto). So after getting pre-approved and everything, I decided to wait the hour to see if anyone else turned up.

And no one didn't. So...

This WRB 6-speed BRZ Premium is now officially mine! I'll be taking delivery hopefully sometime this week (they're not sure because as I said they were expecting to move it on Saturday). I'm sorry if this didn't warrant a new thread, but the story I went through to get one of these was so all over the place that the fact that I'm geting one still hasn't really sunk in.

Well I know this isn't true because I for one did not show up.

J/k, looks like the only bird got the worm this time. Hope you can take it home soon.

congrats man,

So with the lottery system, was there one for each car and just no one entered for the WRB or did no one show up in general?

Hopefully I get a chance to see you driving around. I'm flying over to Maui on Tuesday and will probably visit some of the other islands while I'm there.

We all know that in life the odds are usually in the "house's" favor; but it is nice to see somebody win the jackpot.

Yeah, it was basically come down and choose which on you want, and they'd draw from all the names of parties interested in a specific car. Lucky for me (and the guy who got the Satin White Limited) we were the only ones who were serious who came to that particular dealership. At the other dealership (the *main* one in town), I heard they have at least 6 entrants for basically the same car I'm getting (WRB Premium Manual). I do feel a bit sorry for those guys, but hey, they could have come to the dealership I went to.

What day are you gonna be on Oahu? Every Friday we do a local Subaru iClub meet somewhere on the island. I normally don't go, but if I have the car by then I've been asked to go anyway, haha.

Thanks guys, I'm really really happy right now, even more so because indeed I beat the odds.

If there's a car meet on Fridays I'll do my best to for this Friday the 25th to fly over and check it out.

Congrats on being one of two smart enough to try a lesser known dealership.

My friend was going to order the BRZ on island as well, but she gave up as soon as she learned there was going to be a lottery instead. After you won the lottery did they do the right thing and sell it at MSRP+the usual fees or did they add a markup to it?

No, our local Subaru here follows a policy of no mark-up so yes I payed the MSRP + fees. Well, actually my car was tinted before being sold as well, but honestly that didn't bother me because I would have done that anyway.
