There are actually three different rotors in this size, and they are available for new and old cars. The first is the standard 06-07 WRX and 05-09 LGT rotor. It uses either a 2-piston opposed caliper or a 1-pot slider. The 2-pot will not bolt up to other Subarus without something like the Kartboy brackets or having a new backing plate pressed onto the spindle. The next version is for the STi 190mm parking brake so that 2-pots can be used on rally cars. See below for more info on the "new" version.

05-09 Legacy GT (1-pot, 170mm park brake)
06-07 WRX (2-pot)
04-07 STi with FHI 2-pot conversion
2010+ Legacy GT
BRZ/FT86/FR-S

Bummer. I think the rotor that is significantly lighter is the non vented Non-NA rotor, so not interchangeable.☹️

yeah I remember reading about it too but I couldn't get a definitive. And like I said those with the answers are long gone.

Is there another forum where all exiled have gone to? Names like Robispec and Brakeman seem to know a lot of lighter rear brakes

Can someone enlighten me as to the extra bolts needed for this kit to work? Per wilwood (https://www.wilwood.com/PDF/DataSheets/ds522.pdf), this kit is supplied with four 230-10425 bolts (7/16-20 x 1.5), yet the first post is telling me I need to order four 230-10425 bolts.

I am confused -- do I need four additional bolts?? Is the wilwood specs wrong? Or should I be ordering four different-sized bolts?

I ordered from 86speedfactory which gives the extra bolts. I also ordered a set myself incase so I wouldn't be stuck during install.


In hindsight you can just order the wildwood kit else ware and save money, and order the bolts separately for ~$12 if I remember correctly.

Well I just got the kit today ... for future installers, if you buy the 140-9193 kit, you don't need the 4 bolts, but you DO need the Wilwood 220-7009 brake line kit.


The stock rubber hoses have a M10-1.25 fitting, while the wilwood calipers only take a 1/8-27 NPT tapered thread, which can't be easily found in any auto parts stores.

guys are there any caliper kits that fit on FRS i can buy NEW for other cars still through subaru or other manufacturers?

Or are every single one of these guides for used parts?

Gobs. Better parts on the dollar aftermarket. And actually built for this platform.


The stuff here is mostly people trying to shave cost by installing stuff that's mostly not quite right for the car balance-wise... And used is always less $.

Or people who realize that brakes that stop a 500 pound heavier WRX will certainly do the job on a BRZ AND want to save 16 lbs of unsprung weight of each front corner. None of the swaps will save anywhere near this much weight.

Most non-native brakes can stop car.
Question being - how well, safe, reliable they will. And right bias is needed for that to be of right compromise to net as good as possible breaking distances across different common pavement types, to keep car stable while braking, and to work well with nannies that may expect for certain bias to be there.
What overall weight of car has to do with that? Only regarding heat capacity of brakes / how long one can do track sessions if used on even lighter car then donor. Bias is one (rest of car, especially tires/weight distribution/aero) that will affect how safe/stable/predictable car stays at heavy braking/lockup/treshold braking, how short are braking distances (if one end of car is not underbraked). And that optimum is specific to specific cars of specific weight distribution and specific suspension design. WRX has different weight distribution. Suspension has many similarities, but is NOT identical. Car maker (and proper BBK vendors) engineers spent lot of time on fine-tailoring best bias, and at different scenarios. Many many times more then enthusiasts can afford testing for limited time on limited scenarios.
If argument of donor car weight vs weight of car brakes will be retrofitted to holds any meaning and should be main deciding factor .. just install brakes from eighteen-wheeler trucks and go right to track, as probably that will be best BBK possible

(Sigh) The bias on this brake kit is closer to stock than any aftermarket kit you can get.
I'm always glad when other people support the companies by spending more, so all the power to you. But I honestly doubt that this specific brake kit using all universal-application elements is "specifically engineered for" the "specific suspension geometry" of the specific WRX, specifically. By specific engineers.

But back on topic, I threw this kit on and threw my summer wheels at the same time, and, by my measurements, saved 59lbs unsprung total, with 45 of that being on the front.

This car is 100% daily and it might be placebo, and this is a cumulative effect of almost 60lb unsprung dropped, but the results feel pretty amazing from an initial drive.
- There was a stretch of road I drive every day that must have hit the resonance frequency of my suspension because it honestly made me wonder if I was under-damped. That went away! It just felt flat now.
- The turn in feel is pretty amazing, it felt like a video game. I could feel the (very low) g-forces on my body with the slightest turn of the wheel.

The 02-14 WRX has the same sized front rotors and caliper piston sizes (excluding 06-07- smaller pistons) as the BRZ. Any kit meant for those is going to be fine from a bias standpoint. Plus with EBD and ABS small changes are not that big of a deal.

The actual issue is the leading vs trailing caliper mount, so you may not be able to get the caliper pistons in the right order and bleed the brakes properly.
