I wouldn't be surprised if just variations in ambient temperature and mositure % can make the CEL show up...

You absolutely cannot in no case on this car get a CEL from just a catback on our cars and a K&N air filter, @steve99 is 1000000% correct, there are no sensors after the header to detect anything wrong flow wise past the overpipe (even less). Also the P0700 and U whatevers happen when you unplug or plug in an OBD2 adapter and the car misregisters it

A number of guys with tracked cars have completly blown out primary cat in header.

With stock catted header you should not get the P0420 cel code unless something is wrong.

If its an aftermarket catted header then yes P0420 is possible, as the aftermarket cat may not match the charasteristics of the stock cat in header. some people will never get the cel some will occasionally.
I have this FT86 catted header, I just assumed that's what we were talking about because of the thread... but yeah I understand, thanks

thought you had stock header, and a catback. Unfortunately it possible to get P0420 with any aftermarket header, catted one vastly reduce possibility but no 100% guarantee, few people in this thread get the CEL but many dont. The CAT is likely ok if its a speedfactory header The speedfactory cat is much more robust than the stock ceramic cat in stock header.. Check for exhaust leaks though and always use new gaskets when fitting a header reused gaskets will almost certianly leak after a while causing problems.

Thanks for the advice! I did use new gaskets thankfully. I also bought this OBD2 reader just in case, turns out I'm glad I did haha. It's something I am willing to live with in order to have that UEL rumble

My wife ordered this header on Oct 2nd. She paid in full for it at the time of order. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered from FT 86 Speedfactory... After reading all of this CEL drama not sure what to do.

Currently running Perrin resonated 2.5 in cat back, HKS mid pipe non resonated , Perrin overpipe. I was trying to avoid dealing with CEL so hinted to the wife about this header thinking it was what I would order in the future. She ordered it without me knowing as a Bday present ( my Bday was late Nov ).

Is there a danger of cracking when wrapping the header pipes with heat protection tape?

Have had mine for over a year and roughly 20,000 miles. Still no cracks and the metal has blued nicely. I run mostly OFT Stage 2 UEL E85, and Stage 1 91 during the winter.
