I bought a used 2013 with TRD exhaust and intake dealer installed by PO.
At first, I thought the exhaust was kinda cool in town. But mine drones moderately badly right at 72-74mph. Not enough to drive you crazy, but enough to push going 77 in a 70 when cruising.
I've now owned the car for ~2k miles, and, for the first time in my life, I think this car needs to be louder. I'm a very considerate person, hate ricers, loud exhaust, not interested in bothering my neighbors, etc but jeez this TRD exhaust is pretty tame.
A Prius was sitting in the left lane of a 2lane highway, going 50mph in a 65 zone. I dropped it 2 gears and did a pretty aggressive swerve-around (I promise, not my typical behavior), and redlined it through 3rd for added effect. I was really wishing for an exhaust that would shake the idiot Prius driver's bones like a train horn, but it was rather disappointing...

I think I'll try a catless UEL header before I go changing the whole system to be unpleasantly surprised with some straight-piped nonsense.
Im on the gruppe s uel header now and if you want that "bone shaking" type of thing, like purposefully obnoxious when you want it to be, i dont think youll get that with the uels

It makes it deeper, and rumble, but not louder or "shrill" in a aggressive way

bibbity boppity give me the zoppity

I must confess, when Prius drivers are going 10 or more under the limit, I relish the opportunity to book it passed them. They aren't saving the environment any better going 10 or more under. Alas my HKS set up is pretty tame too

Seems like all the Prius drivers in my area are doing 10+ mph over the limit!

You complain about "drone" with the TRD but want louder with no drone?
Good luck.

The only "drone" I get with the TRD is during cold start. What ever RPM/fuel trim/temp that hits just sets it off.

I know, TRD parts on a BRZ... I'll get some STi stickers to cover them up. Hard to pass on the low low price of free.

Good luck.
I got catless UEL headers and even though it got a bit louder, the annoying boominess of the exhaust went away. I confirmed with gf that the sound had gone away and it wasnt just me getting used to it. (she did not get used to it, hates it more now but agrees the boomy drone when coasting on the highway is gone)

I have the TRD and good sound but drones on the freeway. The best sound was stock with the bolts loose letting some of the unmuffled sound out. Just loosen the bolts and you have a great sounding exhaust for free. You're welcome....

This sounds bad. Is carbon monoxide poisoning a concern here?

If it's at the axleback joint, how bad could it be?

Fair enough, it is after both cats and behind the cabin. I think going a bit further for a muffler delete would be nicer, dont have to worry about the bolts vibrating loose. Thats pretty minor if the poisoning is not really a concern though

" How bad could it be"

Good, but my favorite is "Watch this".

Yeap, nothing bad ever happens.
