No problem buying the car if it was only offered as a roadster.
But I like having a roof over my head.

Only if it was a hardtop, and even then, maybe. I'd have to see how it looked first. For the most part, I really don't like the way convertibles look. I can only like it if it's a hard top. But, convertibles have a tendency to cost more, and if it had started out as one, I wouldn't own it now. Maybe later down the line.

If it were designed as a drop top from the start, then sure. But nothing ever good comes from cutting the roof off a sports car. The only benefit I can see is that if I wanted to make a track-only car based on the 86, this would let me build an open-topped racer like the Lotus 2-Eleven easier.

I dislike the look and performance of 'vertibles. Though the 12C Spider shown above is popular. Mclaren says some surprising stuff about its demand

Koopay all the way. However the more I learn about the Miata the more I like it. I'd get the Miata PRHT and never take take the top down. Also I would get some sound dampening mods to reduce road noise. Last edited by Coaster; 11-25-2012 at 02:12 PM. |

Here in Cali, I think a convertible would be just fine where the weather is really hot. And the only nice convertibles in my opinion are the ones that have a hard top and look regular when it's not open. Then there is the fact that they add like 6k to the price and take away alot of room.

No way, totally defeats the purpose of the car's original intent and spirit. Plus, not sure the lines of the car would translate well as a convertible. My 2 cents...

Seeing as you've done the convertible thing, can you elaborate on the downsides and how they effected the ownership experience? Asking both for the conversation and also because I am entering my first winter with a soft top.

i think convertibles add to the spirit not take away from it. the problem is that they take away from the statistics. im a little surprised how a forum for a car this slow can talk about how numbers dont matter and then hate on verts because they are at an objective disadvantage. how can you talk about the fee/spiritl of a car that doesnt exist? i guess living in socal distorts my perspective.
