Headers from Vorshlag, build my own mid pipes, haven’t decided if it’s going to be dual 2.5”/3” or a single 3.5”/4” to a Corsa 14785 axle back exhaust for a 2016 and newer camaro SS. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cse-14785blk Tightest area is at the rear around the diff. The 8.8 is much larger than the stock diff and cuts down on the available room for exhaust to be routed around it. I’m sure I’ll be using some oval exhaust pipe to work it out. |

Decided on true duals. 3” back from the headers to a corsa x-pipe
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/c...SABEgJuVfD_BwE and then into a 2016 camaro axle back kit which is 2.75” https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cse-14787blk Of course it isn’t just gonna fit Now it should Once the exhaust gets here, I’ll start mocking it up and figure out what needs to happen with the rear subframe at the lower control arms. |

There’s a good amount of room to work with. I want to figure out some sort of rigid mount for the filter side. |

It’s hard to tell from the pics...it’s actually pretty close to being where it needs to be. I ordered a few different 4” 45 degree elbows, some rubber, some silicone and a metal one. I’m certain I need to cut a couple more inches from the k&n duct...once the elbows get here I’ll continue with the project.
There is about a one inch tall pinch weld/seam on the front top part crash bar. I’m going to remove that, which should give me even more room and angle of attack on getting things lined up nice and clean...if I have to I can cut into the crash bar even more. |

Awesome build.
Two questions if you don't mind. I'm obsessing about driveline angles on my build. In particular the engine/transmission angle. Now that your mounts are in,,, have you put an angle finder on your transmission to see the angle??? I'm planning true duals as well. Based on your pictures, after removing the shield from the gas tank,, the both sides are recessed from the factory allowing a pipe on each side????

He removed the heat shield, then used a large pipe in conjunction with heating the tank to push it in to clearance it for the exhaust. @ILLSMOQ Hopefully you don't mind me answering those questions.

As for the gas tank...I was wondering when someone would ask, no the other side isn’t recessed and this was a tedious project. Wrecked the first tank so I had to buy another one and was successful. Basically heat, a large steel pipe and some pressure. This tank leaked at the heat sheild Mount I was careful with the heat shiel mount area on the next one Tested the tank with gas to make sure it didn’t leak then I wanted to reinforce the area. There aren’t many(any?) epoxies that are fuel proof or any RTV or silicones either. I did find something though, aviation fuel tank sealant. “Pro Seal 890b 1/2” it’s a two part epoxy style substance. Kind of rubbery. They use this stuff to seal fuel tanks on airplanes. Found a lot of good information online where it’s been used and tested in senarios other than airplane fuel tanks. My tank didn’t leak but I wanted to have some added security against a fuel leak. I laid it in really thick. Also want d to make sure it had heat protection but after messing with the factory heat sheild a few minutes I scraped that idea. I called Heat shield products and they recommended their HP shield with the sticky back There is room for a 3.5” pipe to fit maybe even a 4” I’ll be running a 3” through there I realize this isn’t the ideal way to solve the exhaust problem but I’m gonna run with it and i’m confident it will work out great. The exhaust should be here Friday. Last edited by ILLSMOQ; 11-29-2017 at 10:57 AM. |
