I like the way the borla UEL sound... I also like the nameless and jdl that the others recommended. It's a tough choice. If I remember though I think the borla r the cheapest ones I saw. If anyone has video clips of the way your headers sound that would be great. Also if you all know the best sites for prices. That would he great too

Ok now I have another dumb question. Not now but maybe in a few years I may want to supercharge my frs. Would this have any affect on any headers that I choose?

Supercharger? Not too much. Turbo on the other hand would need a header made for a turbo. I think FA20club has a NA header that they can convert to a turbo.
Now, next question is what do you want from your car? If sound is a big issue for you, then you have 2 version of headers. UEL, and EL. UEL is uneven length runners, making it sound like a Subaru. EL is even length and will sound like an ordinary 4 cyl. You can head down to the engine header section in the forums for a bunch of reviews and dyno charts. The UEL headers seem to really work well on this platform. And don' t worry about catted headers unless your state mandates it. Dunno how Texas is, but I doubt it's mandated. California need a CARB exemption and the header must have a cat. No cat headers will yield better numbers and to me will be more reliable. Don't know about after market cat's that are on headers, but i know stock manifolds like to break up the cat and suck it back in the engine. So I am all for getting rid of that crap. And you have an ECUTek, so if it's not done already, you can get a tune that will disable the 2nd cat signal and not give you a CEL light. |

Thanks kevman_101. Good info. Yeah so far I've liked the UEL headers as far as sound. It's always difficult for me as far as sound cause I can be picky about it lol.

Unless you're worried about emissions testing which has already been covered I'd go catless for the header and stock or a catted replacement front pipe.
EL will keep the sound similar to stock but louder. UEL will make it sound closer to a wrx. As far as quality, you get what you pay for. Best bang for your buck imho is jdl uel at 850. Not sure about the quality of the soon to be built open flash header i would guess better than borla and fa20 but not jdl or nameless.... Keep in mind the power is very dependent on the tune.

It's on their site right now for $849, hell of a deal. Mine was right at $1000 after the chrome coating option. Highly recommend coating if you live in a hot climate.

I have an HKS equal length header (Cat less), over pipe and exhaust. I also have the AEM intake . I have a custom ECU tune too. I'm getting the same gas mileage, have a very smooth power curve, a great racy sound, and I'm getting just over 200 whp. No down sides, except a little more exhaust noise. |
