I think it was more of a PR thing in the first place as they knew that it didn't work for most.

i agree. i find it funny that the tsb has the same part number on the replacement HPFP. seems like it was a PR related tsb

Mine is more likely to chirp based on the weather (specificially humidity it seems) than by ethanol content of fuel. I've had it chirp on Shell 91, and had no chirps on Petro 94. I run Shell all winter on a 91 octane tune and Petro 94 all summer on a 93 octane tune, and it's random enough to know it's not just the fuel. I don't alternate back and forth between tanks, so it's not like I'm getting varying amounts of ethanol from mixed types of fuel.

That said, I haven't measured ethanol content of the fuel to see exactly how much is getting into the tank, but I assume that Shell 91 is E0 as advertised, and that Petro is putting as much ethanol in as they can with the 94.

The days I had them were all very hot and humid so I would agree that would be a factor. This also explains why the poor guys in Florida and Cali have more frequent and possibly louder crickets (I have never heard the more tropical species only the northern zone ones)
Mind you all this has been discussed to death before with no solution found so we are just sort of beating our heads against the wall at this point.

im waiting for someone to come on here and say "I have found the fix!" lol but yeah seems redundant at this point. especially when everyone lives in different climate/altitude zones.

Trying to "fix" this noise is like thinking you have a faulty turbo because it whines when you floor it. This "chirping" is the noise these engines (and many others with DI) make while idling after being warmed up. You can't fix something that isn't a problem.

These two comments are nothing alike at all. Its not an engine noise, toyota has specifically put a TSB out saying that its a sticking plunger stopper in the HPFP that may chrip or squeak due to some combinations of ethanol in fuel or different fuel temperatures. Complaining your turbo whines is something a car noobie would do,looking for a fix on a noted problem by the manufacture is quite different.

FYI tested the lucas fuel cleaner this week and (not saying it will work for all cars) it worked to quiet the noise for over 300 miles now. +1 lucas.

I've had my fuel pump replaced 3x now. The crickets go away after replacing it, then eventually come back. I spoke to the service manager at my local dealership, he says Subaru is about to come out with a new revision of the pump, so I think we should be seeing a (hopefully permanent) fix soon. Has anyone else contacted their dealer? I'm curious if any other service departments are getting this feedback from Subaru.

My scion dealer changed mine twice in the last 10k. The second time they were hesitant, as they had issues with Toyota paying them for the claim, saying that its an "invalid fix".

To be honest, i lost hope. VW crowd went through a similar issue with their TDI's, but VW actually fixed the issue and even covered people that were passed their warranty.

Looks like Toyobaru doesn't give a two shits about this issue, and would rather refuse to cover the replacement.

I'd be OK with that.

I love the FR-S just as it is, but if I ever blow the engine, I will give this serious consideration, just because....
