Yep, I'd suggest either an LM4 or L33. Those are the aluminum block 5.3s. If you choose the right head and cam to go on them, you can make 350-400hp, and you can do it for less than $1500 ($1000 if you know where to look).

I found a salvaged 2010 camaro SS with the 6.2 for $200 on a junkyard website lol, it was front end damage, but the engine bay pics looked like it was intact and fine.

I'd do the all aluminum LM4/L33 5.3L on a budget. It should be all the power I would ever need and be reliable too. I hope the entire swap kit will be priced near their BMW kit. Looking at ~$15k for a properly done swap will be very enticing. That's way better than sinking ~$15k into built turbo fa20 crap with questionable reliability and a glass tranny. Ultimately, it will come down to how much the handling characteristics will be thrown off. I purchased my FRS solely for its handling capabilities. I won't do anything to the car that will hinder those characteristics.

The only downside I see with this swap would be the weight of the transmission. The T56 is a heavy bastard, and it sits biased towards the front of the car slightly. I don't think the engine itself would be much heavier, if at all. Aluminum LS blocks are surprisingly light.
For me, it's not how much weight this swap gains, it's where it puts that weight. I hope they post corner balance numbers when it's completed. Sent from my XT1095

Yep I remember posting...
i remember posting that you could get a stripped twin for 5-6K and then a wrecked camaro for 8-9.
You're looking at a total for a 420 hp car of 25K and then add an e-force supercharger and you've got a 600hp carb legal twin weighing less than 3Klbs for 35K... And people try to say that the twins aren't the best bang for buck out there...lol Jaden |
