If you mean it won't close at all, then not sure. If you mean it needs to be slammed and not just "normally" shut to catch the locking mechanism then try removing the two bumpers that are on the trunk lid.
I did that and it helped a lot. I kept on not shutting it all the way and the trunk light kept on staying on and since I normally don't drive every day a couple days would pass and that light would kill the battery.
Removing those bumpers and also making the light operate by a manual switch also helped in case I still don't slam it fully. I will get groceries and then see the trunk light open indicator as I go home sometimes
but luckily the trunk when closed down but not locked won't pop open at all when driving.

WELCOME to ye ol forum, FR_STEEZ -

First, I'd suggest you look down into the latch area and make sure something isn't hiding in there.

Next, check the inside latch lever and make sure it has returned to the down position.

Also, check the emergency inside latch pull and make sure it's not jammed.

Then, I would suggest you spray the latch mechanism (upper and lower) with WD-40 or silicone spray.

If that don't work, I'd suggest you adjust the latching bar.

Come back.

Turns out, there is a little demon that grabs onto the trunk when you close it. Pope-ing the trunk must have banished it back to the underworld. Solution:. Find little demon, put in trunk. But make sure it's not a gremlin, those are different.

Though if you intended to say "popped" the trunk I would first make sure it is closing all the way. Fold the seats down and have someone else close the trunk while you watch from the inside to see if (1) the light goes off and (2) if the latch pieces engage. If yes, troubleshoot the latch. If no, find obstruction. Also, disconnect the trunk light so it doesn't kill the battery

Good idea, but actually, duck tape is much more useful, it can be loosened and re-pressed down to allow access to the trunk -
