there still is a spot on the back to adjust the lights. the BRZ lights are a direct bolt in, just needing to swap plugs for the frs ones. its easy to repin them with a small flat head. For the signal its just tapping into the stock one or run that with a led and use it for parking/DRL also

I just installed the BRZ headlights on my FRS so I thought I'd post some info.
First of all, I have to give credit to @Moto-P for the info on the FRS headlight wiring here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=22 It's pretty simple to repin the male harness connector which is on the headlight itself from an 8 pin connector to a 6 pin connector. You can either take the 6 pin connector from the OEM headlamp, or order the connector. The part number is 90980-11033. You will need two (1 for each side). I did it this way so thatI would not need to pirate the connector from my current headlamps and could therefore get the wiring set up completely first, then simply swap the head lights out. This is what the harness looks like on the BRZ headlamp: As you can see (sorry for the crappy photo), there are 7 wires. White = Turn signal + Green = Boomerang LED + Thin Black = Common Ground Yellow = High beam + Red = Low beam + Thick Black = Low beam ground Blue = High beam ground To remove the pins, simply use a small metal probe or tiny flathead screwdriver to push the little plastic clip above the pin up, while gently pulling on the wire on the other side. It should slide right out the back. When you are done it looks like this: Here is what the 6 pin connector looks like. The left side of the photo is the front view, where the pins actually would be, and the right side of the photo with the circular holes is the back of the connector, where the wire come out. Anyway, I have labeled both sides with the corresponding pin number locations. There are a few ways to do the wiring. If all you want is for the boomerang to light up with the parking lights and headlights, then you will only need 6 of the 7 pins, and they will all fit in the connector The FRS female harness side of this comes wired like this: So if you set up the connector on each headlamp like this: You will get the boomerangs on with the parking lights, and they will stay on with the headlamps. Looks like this: Swap out the headlights, plug it in and revel in a job well done. So sweet. If you want the turn signal in the headlight housing to work, and/or want the boomerang to act as a DRL as well, it will require a couple extra steps. Since the headlight harness only has 6 slots, you will either need to connect the turn signal wire directly to the connector, or create a new connector. To give it a more OEM look, I just ordered a couple of standard HID headlight wires for 8 bucks off of ebay. I removed the pins from the male side, and inserted the turn signal and boomerang LED pins. Then, the female side I used to splice into the turn signal power from the car, and the DRL for the boomerang. Ended up looking like this: So it ends up being wired like this: To tap the turn signal, I did it when the bumper was off for the headlight install. You want to tap the red wire here: As for what to tap to get the boomerang as a DRL you probably want to do it the same way they do on GT86 headlamps, and likely you will need to remove the resistor as well (although I do not know for sure since I didn't do it this way). http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1012406 I however, already had LED DRLs that I installed (see this thread http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27813). So I simply tapped the power wires to each DRL. And the result: Last edited by Chaetagnath; 07-09-2017 at 07:21 PM. |
