so you are enjoying a drive and an annoying kid goes "ooh whats that" and pulls your memory card..... ur fuked?

Thanks.
Less memory required in head unit.
also how would you update the maps if it was soldered on the motherboard of the head unit?

you can eject it and put in a new card with music pictures on it

Unless you look closely you really don't notice it, but if your kids are messing with things on the dash while your driving, that is your fault. I guess the same thing can be said ooh whats that and grabs the shift lever and try's throwing it into another gear.

Don't let annoying kids ride.

I was just giving a hypothetical scenario. The other cars I have seen always have a HDD based navi. One can buy updated maps for them. Memory card seems knew to me... is it? If it is removable... it should serve a purpose. Has anyone put a different software on it?

Thanks.

It's so it can be easily updated. Toyota does it too, but they hide the card behind a fake button.

You can also use your own memory card and change the start up screen or watch video (not that I see a reason for video). I wouldn't change the OEM memory card at all.

Sorry nin69 but I lol'ed at your comment. That's like a mechanic calling Goodyear to get advice on how to mount a tire.
I don't have the bespoke HU on my 2015 frs and I took mine to one of the best regarded car electronics places near me in LA and they had to call beatsonic up (mostly for safety as I was the first 2015 they'd done). The HU in the 2015 at least is missing some normal things present in other HUs and the bespoke one, so they had to tap into some other wires to make it play nice.

The upside was the owner got me tacos and a beverage for the trouble. Life changing tacos.
