Yep, stock (factory SPT exhaust ) and I drive almost entirely on the highway. I also don't drive very much... My 10 WRX had less than 10000 miles when I sold it after 2 years of ownership.

I currently drive an 02 WRX and get 23 mpg. I should save about 60/month on gas if I get 30mpg (350 miles/week commute).

And that site, serialk11r, has converted the numbers to the current EPA ratings. Click on any car and find the link to "View Original EPA MPG"

Anyways, back on topic, i think in the real world we can get better then what the FRS/BRZ is rated. Maybe not 40mpg but still better then EPA is giving it credit for...
Yes, this is the same one I have. Love everything about it (except at highway speeds, can't even hear my own thoughts), but often wishing it had a 6th gear and was RWD. That's why the BRZ seems like such a godsend. It's more than enough car for what I use it for, the hell with 0-60 times and other paper figures. Although I'd miss having an armrest and sunroof.

The armrest is my biggest deal, in the corolla i can rest my hand on the shifter and arm at the same time. But since ive heard its so bad for the car 9 to 12 driving for me.

Ah okay the 1.7Ls are pretty fuel efficient, but they have somewhat short gears. Comparing to similar cars the BRZ should be able to cruise on the highway at high 30s maybe low 40s (mpg). At this point it's speculation but I think the fuel cost difference should be pretty small.

It had better. It's one of the main reasons why I want to pickup a BRz. I drive a V6 Taco with over 100K+ miles and I'd be lucky to get 20mpg combined. And I live in the city with plenty of stop & go traffic.

I'm predicting extremely high insurance. The tC is already one of the most expensive cars to insure(not counting Ferrari's and such of course), which itself is absurd considering the demographic that car was aimed at...young people with little money. So they give the car 18" wheels with ridiculous tire costs and a complicated moonroof that costs 20% of the entire vehicle to replace if it breaks.

Anyway, I think the FR-S/BRZ will fall into a similar rut, namely due to the limited numbers.

During my recent change from Allstate to Progressive I asked if RWD would carry a premium over FWD, the response was NO, so that's a good start.

Really costs around $3.5k to fix a moonroof on a tC? Wow.

ran quotes for a new miata and a new genesis coupe and my insurance from a 2008 mazdaspeed 3 barely went up ~100 for 6 months. also ran a 2009 s2000 and it was around the same as those. i think the gencoupe would probably be the closest match insurance wise.

The BRZ's demographic was like people in their 40s lol.

My bicycle uses 0mpg in the city. I don't take it out on the highway.

Since 22 is bigger than 0, it looks like it will do better.

All jokes aside, I have a Corolla that averages 25 combined so i think it'll be about the same. I'm sure it'll do better than our boxy xD, mpg is killed by its shape.
