So many different different aftermarket coilovers to choose from. I'm looking to get into autocross this summer. For a begginer like me, which coilovers would work best for me in autocross?

It doesn'tneed to be another set of the OEM tires, but I'd recommend you stick to a relatively high performance tire, and with the brand names.

Falken FK453, Hankook V12, etc.

I don't want to change the dynamics of the car too much by pushing the wheels out though, any advice?
Don't worry about scrub radius or aerodynamic consequences of lower wheel offset. You'll know if you need to worry about it.

Stick to stock, until you know what exactly you want to change.

If anything, get yourself a front sway bar, and ONLY the front sway bar, for now.

Also, AutoX modding is typically mutually exclusive with track modding, when it comes to times.

Mike,

I am planning to take my BRZ to the track for the first time. I want to keep the car stock for a while and get familiar with it before serious mods come in.

The only thing I'm planning to change for the track is:

Hankook RS3
Brake pads
Brake Fluid

Will this be efficient?

Would the stock rotors be fine? or would you suggest changing them too?

Also can you (or anyone here) suggest what pads and fluid would be good for a first time track session.

Thanks a lot!

I'd recommend you get camber bolts too; they're REALLY inexpensive.

I actually loved running the Hankook V12s this past season. Got a lot of compliments in the handling department for such an inexpensive tire setup.

Hey Mike, when would you recommend adding a rear sway bar?

If the car is understeering too much, and the owner doesn't want to change spring rates (or can't).

I plan to AX and track my car occasionally.

So far I've added ST coilovers, lowered 1.5'', Michelin PSS 245/265 on Enkei Raijins 18x8.5 and 18x9.5.

Car should hopefully have around 300whp this week after turbo and tune.

I know going staggered with big rubber will cause more understeer, so I added a thicker rear swaybar (Perrin 19mm) to help (hopefully) neutralize the car.

Is my thinking correct? I haven't pushed the car to the edge yet, but I'm expecting understeer with my particular setup.

Got a track related question? I'll try to answer.

I just found out that I made standby at TWS this weekend, which I didn't really expect...I have ~1200 miles on the car, factory engine oil/brake fluid and a set of 17x9 +38 255/40 rs3 sitting in my garage that are begging to go.

I hate the Prius tires, but the other set seems like serious overkill for 160 hp car at a fast track. WWYD?

I thought I read in the manual that I shouldn't change the factory oil until 5k miles, but I don't feel right about leaving it in. WWYD?

I would put the tires on and leave the oil alone. The oil in the car is most likly a break in oil. High hp motors use these for about 20 min while they are broke in on a stand but due to a longer calmer break in they are probably putting in a lighter version of that in the twins. The tires will help even on a fast track and you will have a much lower chance of going off course. I waited until my car had some miles and the first oil change to track it but that was more me being over cautious as I have zero luck with subaru engines.

Your thinking is correct, but I suspect you will also suffer from a LOT of understeer, and when you do get oversteer, it'll be a pretty hard snap from power-over.

I'd recommend you go to a square setup, and run a FRONT sway bar for faster transitions. It'll understeer through sweepers, but you'll make up the time in slaloms and then some.
