Don't see the point of changing the, if they won't be lighter (like you say to balance out the heavier tyres).

LOL its easy to tell if you are buying a specific type of tire. Example my race tires have side walls so stiff they are actually hard to mount, but that is to be expected. Buy "max" performance summer tires they are likely to be stiffer. Anything else like all seasons are supposed to be sellable to the masses so they make them comfortable for "normal" people. Winter tires have the softest side walls

I got them for looks and also a 225 fits better on a 8inch rim. 225 like I had on my stock rims bulges a bit and that gives a little sloppy feel. You should stick to a good sticky 215 on stock rims. Compound is greater then width, never forget that.

This is what I just did.. 225/45/17 on the stock 17x7 wheels. HTR ZIII at 35psi all around. Its a max perf summer tire, definitely not all seasons! I do feel the road a bit less, which I'm fine with since my car is a dd, but the grip is better than the stock primacies. I can take my favorite turns faster and traction control kicks in less often. It really is a lot of tire for a 2700 lb daily driver. see pic below, if it uploads.. Oh, and on my winter setup, the car floats on the highway, its sketchy. Blizzak WS70 215/45/17.. It's because of the tread compound, not the sidewalls. |

I think i might have my verdict. I will keep the XXR's and get much better tires in a 245/35r18. Below are my options

Well you can take those Potenzas off your list. They are a great tire for the money but I ran them for 2 summers and they are far from "stiff".
