Yup, what I feared. They will ruin another car, like they did with the first gen and second gen tC. Then again, I didn't have high hopes when it was rumored that it would be based on the TNGA platform.

It's OK you can have one too.

If you want an AT I understand that there are scads of them available in Canada. The MT is very very rare.

So instead of an econobox class back to basics make-the-driver-a-better-driver sports car in the 86, we're likely looking at something more akin to a
larger, comfier, more powerful, more expensive Mustang/Camaro type sports car with great capabilities?

or maybe rather a 4 seater supra with Subaru/Toyota parts bin parts instead of BMW bits?

OR maybe dumbed down to a Corolla or Camry coupe?

Thats going to be disappointing in all cases.

I feel like it'll be more of a "Sportier" RWD Corolla Coupe with a boxer motor. Which it essentially would be. I mean, right now, it's basically a RWD Imprezza Coupe.

A *lighter* RWD corolla coupe sounds wonderful. I’m afraid it’ll be that plus 250lbs though.

*EDIT* well Corollas weigh up to 3150 lbs so I guess you were right.

Mild hybrid option wouldn't bother me...

And honestly a rwd 5door Corolla hatch would be cool as hell! Why can't we have both that and a lighter 2-door coupe? AND a shorter-wheelbase still-lighter-weight 2-seat sports car version too!

Chief engineer Tetsuya Tada let slip to Australia's Motor recently that he believes the new 86 will be "better than the Supra," although we're not sure exactly what he means by that." - Car & Driver

My guess is something akin to the old Celica All-Trac, utilizing the Subaru global platform and drivetrain. As of a matter of fact, I bet Toyota couldn't wait to shit all over another one of their old nameplates by letting it be basically a badge engineered car.

Hey Ichi, if thats true, at least it'll be like a return of the 2 door GC8's....ish. I imagine it keeping to a two door body is about the only thing it'll have in common with the 1st gen.
