My drive experience

So today I finally took a manual GT and an auto GTS for decent drives.

Firsty, let me say I was very dissapointed by the interior quality on the GT. Although I appreciate that it still has a lot of standard equipment, the GTS is well worth the extra $$$'s.

Secondly, the drive was fantastic. Yes it could probably do with more power but aside from driving in a straight line, it did not bother me one bit. It revs like you want it to and handles like a dream. I feel that the wait was well rewarded.

Thirdly and most importantly, I am torn on transmission. I drive my car for work and I have been set on the Auto for convenience factor alone. The auto was better than I expected; The shifts were fast enough for me, downshift throttle blips addictive and overall one of the best torque converters I have driven. I would not be disspointed owning it.

But the manual. The manual. Its just.... perfect.

So for me its going to be a manual/auto GTS. I thought today would make my decision easier but it has made it even harder.

The other thing that surprised me was how nice the dark grey looked and how nice the 17" wheels looked on the GTS. Much nicer than photos.

Get the manual. You're probably right handed, so your left leg will need the exercise. If you don't get it you might end up walking in circles.

Btw which dealer was it through?

@crouchy, which dealer did you go to? I'm also from adelaide and need to chase up some test drives later this week when I get some time. Also did you find a decent route to try the car on (i.e. crappy roads, high/freeway type road). I've driven an aurion for a few years and the road noise at high speed was the most disappointing thing about the car. Also, did you find any truth to the claims about ride quality between the 16"/17" (so gt/gts)?

Was through Peter Kittle at Para Hills West.

Im dealing with Rick Ames (0431142662) and he was extremely helpful in getting me a test drive. Im sure he wont mind me passing on his details.

I am dealing with Rick Ames at Peter Kittle Para Hills. He has been very helpful so far so will probably end up purchasing through him.

Personally I did not find the road noise to be significant enough for concern. That said, the in-cabin engine noise at high revs may annoy some drivers (definitely not me... Im addicted).

The ride was firm but no where near as harsh as the Renault Megane RS250 I drove the other week and I could not tell a huge difference between the 16 and 17.

For me it is certainly a livable car, especially in GTS trim.

Hey Guys,

Ordered Mine with Peter Kittle - Auto GTS on the 19/07/12.
The guy told me they already had one on order and he even showed me their system.
And there it was: ETA 15/08/12.
So I signed straight away and made a deposit.

After a week I started asking for my tracking number.
Up until now... Nothing!
I called again last week, he said the build was pushed to October.

Not sure how I can trust this guy.
I've read by having a tracking number it confirms that the car is put on a list ready to be manufactured.

This is what he emailed me:

25/07/12
I can only get the tracking number once the vehicle proceed to A2O status with Toyota, hopefully any day now and once that happens I will email the details.

Feel like I'm sitting in the dark. No information what so ever with this guy.

Get the manual!! The clutch is so light it won't hurt your knee.

I know from experience I drive gfs 07 corolla after getting out of my 86 and I feel like I am pushing against a brick wall.
(Have bad knee from skateboard )
