Hum around 3k??

Hey guys new to the flat 4 world, here's my story, I just picked up a 2014 FRS monagram edition 30k on the clock. So I've had her for about 3 weeks now. It's lowered on bc coils, running 18" with 265s front and rear, "fat bitches" so I've noticed while driving in 3rd and 4th, around 3k rpm there's a hum not at 2900 or 3100 but right there at 3, I've got stock exhaust and intake, I'm just wondering if it's a normal thing with the flat 4 or if it's maybe something else. I know very little about this car, but from what I can tell it has been taken very well of. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, ThisGuyTaylor .........

No, it's not normal ...... leastwise not with my all stock (cept for the muffler) 2013 FR-S.

Those are pretty big tires for that car ...... could it be the tires making the hmmmm .. ?? I suggest you try upping the tire pressure a couple of pounds to see if it goes away. Maybe rotating them to see if that helps.

Do I read that right that the exhaust is all stock .. ?? That would be unusual for a pre-owned FR-S. You might check and make sure all the exhaust connections/hangars are secure.

Not everyone wants to sound like a high school kid with a 20 year old Civic, or deal with the attention that brings..

But I enjoy the noise. It doesn't have to sound like a 20 year old Civic just because it is louder than stock. There are many loud(er) exhausts for cars that do not sound obnoxious.

But, but, but, what if you have a small penis? How will people tell you have a flashy car if it doesn't make a lot of noise and detract from your undeveloped reproductive glands!

If you get it at 3k in neutral and not moving, that would be something vibrating that shouldn't, or at least could be tightened up or shimmed somehow.

Or humfrz is catching some Zs in the back seat.

I simply haven't yet heard an aftermarket cat/axle back for these cars that doesn't sound ricey, for lack of a better word. The closest I've heard to what I'd actually consider driving would be the Greddy Supreme SP...if there another muffler option that is quieter than that (other than OEM), I might consider it..

I'd buy a Harley in that case.

The TRD has a nice deep tone and although louder than stock there is not a hint of rice to it. There are several that give the same effect.

You've had it for three weeks. It's not a ship, and it doesn't have a vagina.

Just to clarify, it happens at 3000 RPM in all gears? Or just cruising in 6th?

It's hard to tell where sounds are coming from in this car, but can you get a sense of the direction from which it originates (front, back, underneath you, etc.)?

Corsa. They come to us from making Corvette and SRT exhausts and diesel mufflers. Nothing at all ricey about the sound.

Might give the wrong impression.

Would you harley have the cute little leather tassels on the saddle bag or not?

Not sure if I'd be man enough to ride around with purses strapped to the sides of my bike, just so I can ride from one bar to the next. It'd definitely have to have tassels on the handlebars though...lol. And I'd have to wear fingerless gloves and a Village People vest.

You have to buy a flashy colour as well as being noisy though. Just the noise does not compensate enough.
