Whether that's due to the fact that having CarPlay far outweighs any annoyances I have about the NEX operation or appearance, or whether I've just grown accustomed to how the dash looks after 2 months, I'm not sure.

But I'm not going to go back to the stock headunit. If Subaru can finally decide to put CarPlay in the BRZ (like they're slowly introducing to other 2018 models), I would consider buying one of the new factory units... but by then, my lease will be up, and I'll just opt for replacing the whole shebang.

Here's a link to some less-than-optimal photos, but hopefully you'll get the idea:

Give the new MVH-2300NEX a look. Fixed faceplate, no CD player, and Waze is now part of the Pioneer connectivity app (great for iOS users who hate Apple Maps). Plus, it's only $400.

Thanks for that info, that's a good option.

I am not interested in changing the dash on my 2017 Limited BRZ, so I’ve been searching for a way to get an aftermarket DD Head Unit.

The above link is to an item on eBay that turns the factory opening to a standard double din opening. It ships from the UK so I will have to wait till the end of the month to see if it’s any good. This is a gamble for sure but if it fits and shows good it could be a good solution to those of us affected by the Subaru knuckleheads.

Thanks Flash02 for the product info.

I had the MY16 replacement dash in-hand as well as the Metra clips and it just didn't look right, personally. I went ahead and ordered the item from the UK that you linked a couple of days ago and it should be here next week.

Did you, by chance, receive your kit yet?

Thanks again.

pn 66077CA200

They are currently on back order, but that's what you need. As you can see in that thread, people have already started swapping them. I assume this will be a very very popular swap and this part will always be in high demand.

If you swap to that, you can use any of the standard double din adapters or a head unit that is shaped to fit the 13-16 FR-S dash shape.

Sooo... anyone care to recap for a slow guy like myself?

What I understood from this thread is that I go buy the dashboard pn 66077CA200 that fits perfectly on the 2017 Subaru BRZ and that includes the same kind of leather and red stitching that;s throught the 2017 BRZ cabin.

And then I can buy the Kenwood DDX916WS, Kenwood DDX917WS, or the Pioneer NEX 4200, and all of them will fit flush and perfectly fill up the space on the pn 66077CA200.. am I right?

Also, reverse camera, Android Auto, and steering controls, should all work perfectly, correct?

Are there any altenrtaive sound systems to those I've listed as well? the Kenwoods are actually pricey at over 700 US$.

Not sure the Pioneer NEX 4200 will fit perfectly in the 200mm opening in the replacement dash trim, but the Kenwoods will, if you can find one.

Getting the steering controls, USB, camera, etc. should all be doable with some work. It will be easier once the iDatalink Maestro RR support arrives.

If you want the HU to fill the space, the Kenwoods or some of the Android HUs are the only 200mm options I know of.

Thanks for pointing out this 200mm width, I didn't know about it and now a lot more options are popping up when I do the search

Also, I guess I'll put this thread here for those interested in following, it's a thread on the Kenwood DDX917WS:

I'll dig up more and maybe post my findings

Thanks

Well the new bezel arrived today form merry ole England, looks good, just as shinny as the Factory bezel.

Here are some more shots, this set up can be either Double Din or Single Din. As a single DIN a small compartment is attached to the bezel.

Almost makes me want to go to a single DIN unit... But it'll probably look awkward since everything is designed around a big screen in everything...
