2015 wrx tuned versus 86

https://preracing.com/the-new-2015-s...-track-tested/

With everyone saying how slow our cars are and wondering why couldn't we have a factory turbo since the same engine is factory turbo'd in the wrx, I have called B.S. several times because of running into tuned and stock wrx's on the street before.

Now at the time, I had done nothing to my car other than an OTS E-85 tune and a cat back, but I stayed right with a stage 2 cobb tuned wrx(claimed by the driver).

Now, looking at the above article, I can see why. The combination of a tuned wrx only seeing about 230 whp and an E85 stock 86 seeing about 200whp and the fact that the 86 weighs about 5-600 lbs less, now it makes sense.

So in the end, an OFT and some E-85 will give the 86 as much whp as a stock wrx and the same power/weight as a tuned wrx. Add a catless header and you're talking about having a better power/weight than a tuned wrx, so I don't wanna hear about how much better(edit:faster) a wrx is than our cars.

The stock wrx does 0-60 in 5 seconds if you hate your transmission. People say it's faster because it's faster. No offense.. having owned both. Your not going to put power down as efficiently as a WRX, the AWD adds weight but also helps with traction.

With that said I can think of many reasons why the 86 is a better car. I don't really even understand why anyone in a wrx would care about an 86 and vice versa (comparatively for performance). These cars share nothing at all other than pieces of the fa20.

Also a real stage 2 tuned WRX would probably beat an e85 BRZ with driver level being equal and it would do it quite handily. Although I have no data to back that up other than personal experiences.

They're not even in the same class, why the comparison?

It's 5.5 secs and what do tell do you think a 230 whp 86 does a 0-60 in?

Jaden

p.s. my personal experiences are in direct contradiction to that and the numbers are in direct contradiction to that. Also, you are talking about from a dig, so the awd will come into play. I haven't experienced anything from a dig. well except against a focus rs which a stage 1 91 tune put me a few feet behind him. Maybe it is a driver thing, if so, thanks for the complement...

because people insist on comparing them.

I looked it up because people have been comparing them and in my experience they have been wrong. This article and the numbers just explain why my experience has been different than what people have said is all.

problem is, the WRX is AWD, and puts the power down way differently. From a dig, we get wrecked, from a roll we have a shot and if the WRX is modded at all...we get wrecked. the DA in that article was roughly 1500...I just so happen to have taken my frs to the track on a night with a similar DA...heres how I compared.

stock wrx --- cobb1--- FBO/e85FRS
60ft 1.899 ---1.886 ---2.191
1/8 ET 9.067--- 8.886--- 9.395
1/8 MPH 76.62--- 77.63--- 76.81
1/4 ET 14.208--- 13.950--- 14.521
1/4 MPH 94.63 ---97.90 --- 94.89

The Twins are not a good fit for people who get their driving fun from pedal-mashing. There are better options for that purpose.

The WRX is more expensive though. It was on my wish list when I was buying the 86, along with the Mustang GT, 370Z, and I can't remember what else. In the end I got the 86 cause the others were at least 10K more after the options I wanted, financing interest and all that. And a more expensive car should be faster, methinks. Moot comparison

take magazines with a giant grain of salt, they correct DA to 0ft, or sometimes even below 0 ft.

TBH no 0-60 time on the internet is worth anything due to variables. I just wanted to point out that his 0-60 time was not the median or mean of all values given and plenty of people have hit 5 second and sub 5 second times, its the reason for the sti vs wrx mini controversy in 2015, there wasn't a big enough performance gap to justify the premium this generation.

This whole thread just seems silly. I just read something about an e85 brz being within feet of a focus rs.

e85 brz might be within feet of the RS...if the RS doesn't know its a race. this thread didn't tell us anything we didn't already know. a e85 brz is no longer painfully slow...its about equal to a stock wrx, with the awd launch removed from the equation. 1.8x 60' just isn't happening on this car on street tires.

I could get an EG civic, gut it, throw in a K series, and dust off both cars. For a fraction of the cost.

Never really understood these threads. You can make any car faster than another with enough money. Both cars may be at the same price range, but were designed to do two very different things.

It's like a BMW 7 series and a Nissan GTR; Same price but completely different performance. Because they were designed to do completely different things.
