Lol agree with Tcoat.
The current 86 traces lineage back to the ae86.. They're not going to all of a sudden switch it up to known as a Celica. If they do actually give us a new celica, it'll be an entirely different vehicle. What would be really cool is if they brought out a new Celica and it was also rear wheel drive... like it was for the first 3 generations.

Things went downhill when the last celica changed to fwd.
fwd is much more for eco boxes , like yaris. How about a coupe yaris with a fat turbo for smoking front tyres and renaming it celica? |

OH GOD IT'S ALL MY FAULT
...not really, but last week I found the Celica trademark. It was actually official on August 31. I always search Subaru's and Toyota's trademarks (honestly so I can see if they ever have BRZ STI, BRZ Turbo, or 86 Turbo). Anyways I posted the link on Reddit (r/cars), it got pretty popular and the next day The Drive and Car And Driver had posted an article about it.

They are basing this on a patent filing. That's it. It may be true that Celica has more name recognition than 86, but the 86 name is growing it's own rep and own name.
