Dealer wants to drive 10 miles on my First86 FRS

Just talked to the Dealer manager where my new FRS will be delivered, they agree to not drill the front bumper but saying that they will have to drive the car at least 10 miles, not for demo purpose but as a "check out drive".

Obviously that didn't go well with me so I called corporate and they have made a case to ask the Service manager to answer to the regional office and me that it is indeed a legitimate requirement either because of Texas law or something else.

10 miles over my dead body

Anybody has experienced this before? Is it reasonable to expect 0 (or maximum 1 mile) on a brand new "custom" car?

This is exactly what i'm afraid of too man, "check out drive?" tell them you want to sit in the car with the service agent doing the check out drive, or better yet, that you'll "check it out" for them and have the service man sit in the passenger seat...hope it all works out, keep us posted!

I don't think any car will be given to any driver with 0 miles on it. The dealt has to protect their butts so you don't come back and say something is wrong with the car that they didn't catch first. They have to at least make sure all is well in the car. Being upset about 10 miles is nitpicking a little.

i do know this is just my knee-jerk reaction since ive grown quite attached to the car and after the First86 trip any winners would agree with me that the Corporate tried their best to make us feel like this is not just a brand new car this is THE car so I could be nit-picking a little bit

Initial setup is done at port right? so by the time they get to the dealer they usually 5 miles or so, so another 10 on top of that for the dealer's joyride?

All of my new cars have had 8-15 miles on them.

The damn cars are redlined at the factory. I don't see the PDI drive as an issue.

agreed

if it were any other car, i would not mind as much, but this whole entire contest stuff has been about us getting the car before anyone else, thats the charm of it. if ANYONE is gonna drive it its gonna be me damnit, if it were up to any of us we'd take delivery at port, but because of franchise agreements a dealership has to be the middle man...sadly even scion admitted that some dealerships will be more accommodating than others and iono if theres a whole lot scion can do

Car dealers, some, are scum. The rest are just partial scum.

I think they are being pretty accommodating by asking you if this is ok. Be glad that they didn't just do it and not tell you.

Of course, I'd be mad if the dealer called me up and said the same thing. I dunno, maybe they can do their "check out drive" after you do your test drive, that way you're still the first one to drive it.

I thought once the odometer is attached, any time the wheels spin, its going to advance. There's no chance it will have zero miles. Moving it off the assembly line, storage lots at the factory/port, transport movement all are going to add mileage.

Least one I've seen is my '05 MR2 that I happened to be present for at the dealer when they took it off the truck. Even then, it had 5 miles on it as it rolled off the truck.

I do think adding an additional 10 miles is a bit much though unless there is a regulatory requirement for it.

Tell them you'll "rent" it to them for the cost of their bogus doc fees, etc for 10 miles!

A known crap dealer. Only deal with good dealerships? That's common practice for me anyways.

Even if no one at the dealer drives it, it's been redlined at the factory, driven by at least one or two people there, then one truck drive, one dock worker, then another dock worker in the US who beats the crap out of it moving it (the goal is to unload the boat as quickly as possible not to be gentle with the cars), and then the final truck driver loading it only his truck.

So yeah, none of us will be close to the first person driving our new cars...
