From the source article: "Der Zweiliter-Boxer des Toyota GT 86 klingt böser, kehliger und metallischer als die braven Reihenvierzylinder der Japaner."
It translates to: "The Toyota GT 86's two liter boxer sounds meaner, throatier and more metallic then other strong Japanese inline four cylinders." It doesn't say flat six, don't know why the OP's translation has it, unless they made a goof and edited the original doc after the translation was done. |

That's a google translate "feature"
0-100 in 7.2 and 6l/100km? One sounds slow-ish, the other to good to be true. Thanks for posting! |

7.2 secs 0 to 62 MPH? Dang..it's getting slower...but hey these are still prototypes. Nobody has done a proper 0 to 60 or 1/4 time.

I wouldn't say that...IMO the only relevant figures when it comes to fuel consumption are drivetrain type (hybrid or not), weight, and constant speed highway cruise fuel consumption in top gear. I guess EPA city test would be fine.

It's all speculation. If it's true, I hope it comes out next year.

I wonder if it's because the FR-S isn't making much power above 6500? I read a review that said the last 1k rpms is powerless so I guess that could affect the 0-60 time.

A fast translation of the important parts:
Der Fahrerplatz wirkt sympatisch old school:" The GT86 has against a Porsche Cayman no chance on a timed lap but the Toyota has a more aggressive weight distribution, a lower centre of gravity, a crispier steering and the higher revving engine. The coc*kpit is sporty but not empty - just old school. The maximum torque of 205nm (151ft-lb) is available at 6.600 rpm but 90% of the torque is available between 2.200rpm and 6.200rpm which is unusual (means it's positive for a natural aspirated car). Einzige Bedingung: Der Drehmomentfluss darf nicht abreißen" The GT86 fascinates with it's driving characteristics. The car has two steering wheels (not literally speaking). The one controls the front wheels the other controls the back with your throttle inputs. There is no need for bringing the car out of balance to make it drift. Just bang the throttle and the heck of the car comes alive. But only if you maintain high revs. |
