MXP SP catback drone
Hey guys, I opted to get the MXP SP exhaust because the general consensus was that the exhaust is fairly tame and it has no drone.
I installed it few days ago and I love the volume and the deep tone, but there's quite a bit of drone around 2k-3k mark. Maybe I'm imaging it but I feel like the drone's been getting louder the more I drive it. Is that part of the break in period? I was thinking of getting the 2.5'' JDL ultra quiet front pipe (catted and resonated). Will that help with the drone? I currently have the stock front pipe. Thanks |

I would look at nameless's FP and OP with a resonator and Helmholtz Resonator. Should knock out the drone.
JDL is supposed to be a bit quieter than stock. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk

I feel like *most* aftermarket exhausts have some kind of drone. You are driving a car with a modified exhaust system. Never heard the SP though. Everyone's ears a different too. People will tell you they can barely hear their muffler delete in the cabin lol
I'd let it "break in" for you to get used to it. If it still annoys you that much, I'd go for the JDL Ultra Quiet front pipe. |

Now I'm actually torn between Nameless and JDL lol. I don't mind it getting quieter as long as the drone is resolved even a little

Unfortunately, "drone" and "loud" are subjective terms. Right now, my car is open downpipe right off the turbo. It's the only thing I've heard that seems "loud" and definitely has " drone".
It's unfortunate that it seems to drone for you, their suggestions are definitely valid- don't feel as though you've been mislead by others suggestions, it really comes down to personal experience and previous cars/exhausts people have had. You may enjoy stock catback with headers/aftermarket frontpipe more. It adds quite a bit and has no drone at all. The stock muffler, much to people's chagrin, muffles VERY well. Just cut the tips off and weld on new tips, nobody will know the difference except you. |

Yeah I understand. Honestly I'm really enjoying the exhaust and the drone isn't unbearable. I've had few cars before but this is the first sports car I've owned and modded so I think it's just a matter of getting used to it.
I love the tone the exhaust makes so I want to keep this catback. I'll do some more research on the front pipes to see which one reduces drone more. I'll also be getting a turbo kit with recirculated pipe within next year and I hear the turbo muffles the exhaust noise. How true is that? |

Yes that will muffle sound quite a bit but drone... That could still be there but likely not as the turbo will change the exhaust gases and tone so the specific harmonic frequency you hear will change I am willing to bet

It might not be your issue, but on my previous WRX I had similar drone at the same RPM range with a Greddy Supreme SP. Turned out to be a leaky flange. I realize these are different exhausts and cars, but might be worth a look.

There is a slight drone, but relatively good with a stock header. Once you change the header, the note changes.

I reused the donut flange gasket when I installed the exhaust. I'll recheck and secure the flange and v band connections for leaks
