You might have a problem. How is your LTFT? If you have a very high -fuel trim, -15 to -25, you'll get terrible mileage but no CEL. A loose clamp on the throttle body intake connection or a vacuum line loose can cause that.

I'm averaging around 24 MPG but I do spend a lot of time in 10,000' mountain passes at 5500-6800+ RPM in 3rd gear. This was yesterday.

I've got OFH header, catback and stage2 tune, my mpg has barely dropped from what it was prior to catless header being installed. Haven't gotten less than 27 yet, usually it's high 28's or low 29s. probably 50/50ish city/hwy. Over 30 on actual long trips on the hwy. And this is with 91 California gas.

I average somewhere close to 30mpg combined city/highway. If I'm steady, I average 34mpg with big heavy tires and wheels.

I'd say you're driving it harder than you think, or your tune is not doing well.

Gas is cheap.

To sort your dilemma, I present this customised equation:

1 month's worth of your 'legitimate' extra dollars (or pennies) 'lost' due to 'poor' gas mileage

- a thousand and one other craptastic ways you blew Benjamin's that same month

+ your surprise that any mods would improve mileage and that you wouldn't be more tempted to hard press the go pedal after any upgrades

I can't even fathom driving this car being worried about gas mileage all the time. I drive for maximum fun and whenever it needs gas, I fill up.

Hmmm im on E85 and i can almost get that economy in light traffic city driving, much better on highway, either your economy driving technigue is bad or ther is something wrong.
log the tune look at your cruising afr should be arround 14.7 and your ltft low less than 10%, if its over 10 you likely have and exhaust leak or a bad tune.

to get good economy you need to short shift keep rpm below 3000 and light throttle to keep enging load down

below is a typical fuel tables for open and closed loop you want to be in the less than 0.5 load areas at lower rpm for ecomomy.

Yup, pretty much identical to what I've been getting.

Old jeep 4l inline 6. 37" tires. One ton running gear id get 350 km to a tank. Tank was 55 litres. About 70$ to fill. Frs i get 350 km to tank and 50$ to fill up. .....same as jeep. Still costs me 20$ to go get groceries. And no. U buy a REAL sportscar to drive it and not worry about gas. 86 is a rwd economy car. Should get the same mileage as a ford focus or vw jetta. Im talking v8 or higher. 450hp or higher. This is a god damned 2cyl 4 banger in a super lightweight car. Should be amazing on gas. Not 350 km to a tank. I could also drive ALOT harder than i do. Raaaaarely do i get close to redline.
