i dunno if i buy this... i mean, dealers shouldn't have to compete for cars. from what i was told each dealer is given an allowance of BRZs, which is probably based on their sales figures, however every dealer should still be able to get at least 1 BRZ. something doesn't add up to me.

keep in mind, there is only a markup on inventory if a buyer agrees to pay it. take your business elsewhere

Remember the "Leeky" thread about limited production? We know that his source in Japan was off on a few things like the handmade and the 1000 units/year and other things. But it appears the overall message is clear/to the point; this is going to be a limited production car unfortunately for us.

Question is whether demand will still be there in year 2, year 3, year 4....etc. to justify to Subaru the continued production of this car. I sure hope so.

Considering the same plant also makes the Forester and other cars alongside the BRZ... And considering that TOyota is apparently seeing WAY more demand for the GT-86 than they were expecting (one rumor put it at nearly 3 times expectations).. I don't think there's anything artificial about the limited quantities.

Also keep in mind that Subaru and Toyota weren't going to commit to a 1 million car production run on a brand new car for a market segment neither company has sold to in a long time (or ever for Subaru). So from the start I'm sure the plan wasn't for large production numbers.

However, if the rumors are true and the demand for the FT around the world turns out to be really high, you can bet you'll see much greater production numbers in the future. Just right now, this joint venture is trying to put its foot in the water without it being bitten off.

Believe me, I understand the frustration. Very few things piss me off more than wanting to give a company my money and being told they won't sell to me.

The good news is, not every BRZ will be spoken for. The US is a HUGE market with tons of dealerships. Not every US FT will be pre-ordered. They will be out there. You just have to find them. It may be a state or two away. But a Nevada BRZ is the same as a Rhode Island BRZ. It just might take a little more time and effort to get.

That is incorrect based on info we have previously received.

The Toyobaru is being made at the Gunma Prefecture plant. The Forester is built at the Gunma Ōta plant. Two separate locations. The Gunma Prefecture plant was slated to build only the Toyobaru and the Subaru Mini/Daihatsu Justy and was recently upgraded to handle an increase in production.

Interesting.. Maybe that's what confused my source.

Still, the rest holds true. The original post says to me that the allotments are set and whether a BRZ is sold or not, it'll show up at the dealership. So there will be unsold ones out there. People just have to find them.

The dealer with the largest allocation around me is getting 15 cars and they are selling for MSRP+$800, because they put on Mandatory Tint and Zaktek...

I have another dealer just slightly farther away though...

I'm not blaming you. Just from other info we have received the plant was going to build the new Subaru Mini car (based off the Daihatsu) and the BRZ. If someone else has info that contradicts/updates this please let us know.

I should also note that I agree there will be BRZs available if you want to travel and deal with markup and other dealer antics where they pit you against other buyers. But I don't want to deal with that. Too much headache. That is why I will sit this one out and way for things to die down. I don't need this car right away.

No. Ota and Prefecture are two separate plants. That is how I have been lead to believe at least.

Exactly. I hate dealerships like this. Next you will have a "dealership fee" added on to the new BRZ.
