Are there two versions of R154?
As the title states. I was just wandering and couldn't find this info posted online anywhere. I am swapping a 2jz into my 86 and the shop had two different versions of the r154, one was significantly longer than the other. All the ones I see installed here and on many frs/brz/86 JZ swapped cars is the "shorter" of the two and in all photos the shifter location comes short of the stock shifter location. However the so-called "long" version fits exactly into the stock shifter location and looks almost OEM in fitment with the 2j swap with cxracing mounts.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. and i'm sorry beforehand if i'm completely missing the obvious here and this turns out to be general knowledge

According to some searches apparently the shorter one comes from the Mk3 Supra, whereas the longer one comes from the JDM Soarer.
Internally they should be the same

Thank you! That led me to the exact information I needed. turns out the JDM R154 "Tripod" from the Soarer is the one I have.
It really weirded me out that it fits perfect in the chassis and the shifter is in the stock location, no modification to the gearbox necessary.

Beg to differ on them being internally the same, theres a version of it that has been proven to hold way much more power than the normal ones.
