I could have sold you a GoPro for $200 that doesn't work - save $100+
"Wasted" could mean many things
You need to expand your story a wee bit...

I couldn't climb Mount Washington. That was the whole reason to go. And I wanted to buy your Go Pro but you didn't want to sell it to me.

Latest Generation of GoPro?... are they still finicky about memory?

I had a GoProHD (2nd gen?) flake out on my last trip to europe... Missed the most epic jaunt up the Umbrail pass (to stelvio)... all foggy surreal beauty and then in the middle, crossed a group of vintage caterhams coming down the gravel road... finally get to the top to find out the damn thing had crashed -- that morning's footage was never recorded.

I spoke with our head technician at work today about usb ports in cars. he was saying a USB puts out 5 volts (amps? I forget now. I failed grade 9 science because I have a hard time with electricity). He explained to me certain items like a GPS require 3 volts. In which case the usb will charge the GPS, but you can't have it plugged in and running. HE suggested my Go Pro could be the same thing.

It's plugged in and charging right now. So I don't know.

As far as I know all USB ports are 5V. Typically most are like .5amp. Probably not enough to charge and maintain the battery on the go pro. Try finding a cigarette adapter with a 2amp output. Should solve your charging issues.
