Been working on a front weight reduction project the past few days. Unfortunately not a lot of weight lost for a lot of work done.

Took off all the Non structural metal upfront (Headlight bucket, Radiator T, Fender brackets). Had previously swiss cheesed the Radatiator T but for some reason I didn't record the weight, but I did clean up the holes and added some more

Bought this to do some clean holes. Still needed to drill out 1/2" to use it

All the pieces weighted come to 11.5 lbs

After a lot of drilling and hole punching was only able to save 1lb

But this mission wasn't a complete waste I was able to save some weight removing some unnecessary brackets.

One on each side brackets holds up some thing for the headlights (mini Balast??), easily screwed in without the brackets.

Bracket for outside temp sensor I believe removed, plugs right into radiator spot

went from 2 horns down to one, and removed windshield washer hose.

Brackets,Horn,Hose =Got a 1.25lbs loss!

Also saved a 1lb from replacing bolts with titanium ones and some unused from the brackets

In conclusion easier to find things to remove, or get lighter pieces than drilling holes which hasn't given me good results. Not sure how the Opera S2000 got 700lbs out from doing it!

Total Savings:
Speed Holes = -1lb
Useless Brackets= -1.25lbs
Titanium Bolts= -1lb

NEW WEIGHT 2337.25 LBS

Pretty sure that is a crash sensor. Most of the time airbag/crash sensor stuff is denoted by the yellow plugs. I could be wrong. But I made sure to keep the bracket it was attached to as I didn't want to mess with how the sensor read or anything.

edit: Just confirmed those are airbag sensors.

Thanks

Seeing as my airbags are removed, I could remove these then

Looking good. They are the airbag sensors.

What about the resonator on your airbox?

There are some reports that there were some HP loss removing that resonator due to messing with some of the frequencies.

I did order the Injen Evolution intake (taking a while to ship but I got it at a much lower price). Im not expecting 15hp like advertised but I think its the closest to the Gruppe-m style with a straight shot to throttle body for a fraction of the cost. Main difference is it only pulls in air from one side instead of 2 like the Gruppe-m. So the stock style setup will be gone soon

It should be a nice addition.

Could be, I have mine off and didn't notice a loss in power. Maybe my high flow air filter evened it out

They are definitely airbag sensors I think there's 5 or so (could be 6) on the car.

I pulled all of mine out when I pulled the airbags and airbag module.

Yeah im gonna wait until I pull the dash then remove all the airbag Wiring & module!

Plus there was some extra wiring upfront there for fog lights as well.

Should be good for a few pounds of copper out

Lighter Rear Brake Kit

Finally got around to this, my Lightweight Rear Brake kit

So what is involved in this kit:
-Rear Subaru 2-pot conversion (Refurb Calipers from Rock Auto), Torque Solutions adapter
-Metal Bar from home depot for pad spacers
-Single Vane Rotors from "base" gt86 overseas. $35 on ebay

I recall an old post with Robispec claiming 3lb lighter per side with the Subaru 2pot. Counting in the adapter I only got 1lb lighter per side fully loaded.

a little over 5.5 lbs for the 2pots + adapter

+ spacers added .25 lbs. Only showing 4 here I ended up using 6

Stock loaded Caliper 6.75 lbs

Single Vane Rotor 11.25lbs

Stock Rotor 13.25lbs

Had to do a little grinding to get it on better but really on a small 1mm casting was removed

Adapters Bolted on

I used this stuff sandwiched between each backing pad to keep them from vibrating against each other

So I used 3 plates on the front side, no plates on the back side. Although I will probably make a 1/16" thin plate for the back side so far it hasn't been necessary

Looking Good !

Haven't done any crazy 100-0 stops but bedding in and driving around no issues or noises so far. Stops like it normally did

If this has issues I can just put the stock rear rotor in and keep my 2pot setup

So what was the point of this? To get lighter of course!

So you lose 2lbs in the rear from the 2pots, and 4lbs of rotation mass from the rotors

6lbs Total!

New vehicle weight 2331.25 LBS

Thanks for all of the details.

I think ScoobySouth did a similar setup with the KNS adapters a few years ago.

Are the shims required? I know these 2 pot brakes were from the old WRX, and one model of the WRX had the solid rotors. I wasn't sure if the 2 pots would be fine without the shims.

If you use the stock frs/brz rear rotors then it should be a direct swap without any shims.

The single vane rotor im using is much thinner about 10mm thinner, don't know if the brake pistons have that much travel to not use shims

The best setup would be these calipers with stock size 2pc rotors. People say these exist but Ive yet to see them
