The amusing thing about CUVs is that auto makers are pretending that they're something new and not just catching up with AMC from 39 years ago.

I'm going to drive one of these Saturday. If I buy it, I'll be excited to be able to out-corner Firebirds.

Even Subaru carried that on for years with their outback variants of their everyday cars, before those got spun off into its own models.

I had one of those once upon a time. My wife had a Concord. Freakin' tanks and I would buy an Eagle again in a heartbeat if I ever found a decent one for the right price. Hard to beat the $250 or so I paid for them back then though.

Like these only much rustier.

My local Toyota dealer has ads all over radio like a rash. Not one of them mentions the 86, but they do mention the "sporty and stylish" Corolla.

Same here. I have never once heard the 86 or BRZ mentioned in a radio spot even though they list all of the other cars. I have seen the same FRS commercial 2 twice on TV back in 2015 and one BRZ commercial about the same time and that is it. Both companies play regular commercials on TV here where they show every car they sell except the Twins. I used to right it off a a Scion "we use alternative advertising" thing but since both Toyota and Subaru are heavy into conventional marketing I guess they just chose not to push them.

That Willys Wagon wasn't really a crossover. It was more of a carryall, Brooks Stevens' answer to the Suburban of the time.

This is the '40s crossover:
