Did you changed to an LSD? Speedometer is fuck up? 1st gear still useable? Noise at all when cruising? Overall feelings

@Lunatic did you install the 4.88 on the stock Torsen for your auto?

Yes I changed to an 1.5/2.0 way M Factory LSD. Set up as a 1.5way 100% engagement with the steeped ramp.

The Speedometer reads the same as it did before, or at least I didn't notice anything different.

1st gear is still useable it is very short though. It makes hill starts really easy. I think it maxes out around 40kph. As short as it is I don't know anyone who cruises in 1st gear anyway so it's not a fair statement to say the taller gear makes it unusable.

There is along noise at cruising from 80-90kph but I believe this is more from the AL driveshaft and the fact that I have solid subframe bushings. There is also noise at low speed turning from the rear diff. It sounds like a racket sometimes. It doesn't bother me because I know what it is.

Overall feelings I would do it again for sure. I did the hearing before I did the 60R catback. On the highway now I could do without the exhaust noise. That being said I would change the exhaust and not the gearing. On the track the 5.29 performs close to the same as a supercharged car but without the reliability concerns.

Tire size won't effect the displayed speed vs rpm. The only time tire size will show a difference in speed is if you're reading by GPS or from outside the car.

Most older cars a changed final drive would affect the speed displayed, but these cars use the wheel speed sensors not a sensor in the gearbox (before the final drive).

Ah I see. May I ask why you went aftermarket? I'm interested in the 4.88 swap but was unsure if it would work best on the stock Torsen or an aftermarket 1.5 way or 2 way LSD. Mine's an auto too. Are there better LSD's out there that are better at transferring power to the wheel?

Surething. This is comparing laptimes between cars and top speeds hit on the striaghts at shannonville. The supercharged car with coilovers and Federal tires (my car is stock suspension on 215 RE17R) is about 0.5 second faster per lap and hits about 5kph faster on the straights. When we drag at lunch on the straight for fun the two cars are about even maybe the supercharged car gets about 1/2 a car length depending on the launch. Data is collected with the Aim SoloDL.

Reliability wise I have an upgraded rad and oil cooler. I just change fluids and check them without worrying about heat soak, belt tensioners and whatever else goes along with that. It was also about 1/3-1/2 the price for the gears, LSD and diff cover.

If you are local to Brampton you can come drive it for yourself to see how it feels then post your opinion in the thread. The more out there the better since it's not a very common thing to have done.

That I can't answer. In other words I don't know.

Don't know if this thread is still active or not but I am definitely considering going to the 5.29's but I had a few questions concerning the LSD you're using and why you chose to make that switch to compliment the FD gears and if these gears would be to much for my setup? Also if perhaps the WEIR 4.88 is a better option for me, I daily drive my car but also go to the drag strip and track every now and then. (The current setup on my car is 255/35/18 firehawks on rear, Berk high flow FP, 1320 UEL catless headers and OP, Crawford manifold spacers, grim speed CAI and e85, stage 2 clutch w/ LW FW)
