If you can check Costco on the RE-11A - I got the 245/40/17 RE-11A for @165.

RE-11A on tirerack show for comparison:
215/45/17 - @141
225/45/17 - @163
245/40/17 - @174

I would expect possibly better prices per tire at Costco - had to special order the tires fyi and took about 4 days to ship to the local Costco near me. But you could also get a Firestone shop to pricematch Costco as well.

I have to update this... After a couple days of driving, the 'twitchyness' that I referred to being similar to an Elise just didn't seem right... it was dancing all over the place. I checked my pressures and the left rear was off the chart... way over 50 lbs... I'm guessing 80 or 90. I remember at the tire shop (Discount Tire), they were having trouble getting the tires to "seat" and were using excess air pressure to help with that process. It looks like they forgot to set this one back to the correct pressure. Glad I'm not dead, due to either the poor handling or a tire failure.

The highway isn't F1 or Nascar, there wouldn't have been any investigation... just "speed was a factor" (not that I've been speeding, just work and back).

However, the tires are feeling much better now... great tires. Just make sure to check your pressures when you leave the shop.

Yikes, that would of made me pretty pissed off they basically put your life at risk. I'm assuming a majority of people wouldn't even check tire pressure themselves.

I just went with the stock tire size... without looking it up I think it's 215/45-17?? I know they have 255's... I saw some tire 'review' that showed that the wider tire didn't improve performance and I'm not tracking or crossing so I decided that the stock size in an improved compound/tread would be enough for me.

I'm sure you're right... not many would check the pressure. Maybe a majority of the folks that would be on this forum but most 'normal' people wouldn't. I'm not sure how much risk of a tire failure was posed but it certainly did make the car dart around.

I haven't called them back but I think I will just to let them know to be careful with that.

Sorry I meant the actual width. I know you went with stock sizes but are they actually wider then stock? The stock Primacy seem to run on the thinner side for a 215 tire.

All the extreme summer tires (RS3, DII, RE11A, etc) have wider tire shoulders compared to the OEM Primacy tires. So yes, they're wider overall even though they're all 215 tires.

Tire pressure is very important to get the most out of your tires when driving at the limit. I typically run 35 psi front and 32 psi rear hot when autocrossing. This means they're probably at 32 and 29 cold. Under normal driving conditions, I generally run 40 psi cold for better MPG. They typically get to about 45 psi when hot. Since I'm not pushing the car under normal conditions, maximum grip isn't important to me. On my Civic, I run 60 psi cold, lol.

Yeah I know at the least DII run wider but the S04 is a "max" summer tire so i'm not too sure how wide it is.

I don't think I have any idea what the width is other than the '215' designation... so... I took a tape measure out there. The contact patch seems to be close to 8" and the total width is about 9". That was measured as closely as possible for a tape measure. Have a good laugh if that is totally meaningless!

Been available for a while now. I used a 245/40/17 on 7.5" wide wheel. Used them during a summer, and a full season of autox. Great grip and decent wear characteristics. I ran 1.5 degrees camber front, rotated them fairly often and they wore perfectly even right down to the end. Around 10000km of street driving and 100 autoX runs. FWIW I ended up Atlantic Canadian overall champ in my rookie year. I ran in STX.

They are great street tires but are roughly 2.5 seconds off the pace on a 30 second course.

How are these for noise levels and overall comfort? I hate tires that are loud on highway or that say hello when driving over a small pebble.
