Because the average person cannot handle the BRZ's 'buttoned-up engineering'.

Also, Subaru only makes x amount of each car. Its the way they have been doing things for a while now. They have very spot on projections, which is why they have been so successful as of late. That and their cars are amazingly dependable.

I'm pretty sure it's mostly a function of availability. Subaru projected low sales for the BRZ, so they're pretty much limited to their projections unless they can add some manufacturing capacity.

Never really wanted the Subie version with the one exception of the exclusive blue color. Owned a Scion xB before the FRS and occasionally miss the 4 doors.

The simple reason is that toyota put up the majority of the money for the project and gets the majority if the vehicles produced... Roughly 3 86 for every 1 brz. The whole limited thing is just a marketing spin, and "buttoned up engineering" is just fanboyism.

Correct answer.

Now, can we close the thread because this has been asked before, multiple times? ...

If the BRZ had the FRS front bumper, was sold for 3k less, I didn't have to wait for it and it came in Hot Lava... Then I would have bought the Subaru.

I guess I've reached an age where I think brand loyalty is a bit silly as it's only a 1 way street.

I think the US FR-S to BRZ ratio is more like 3 to 1,
for every 3 FR-S that lands here there will be 1 BRZ

This is the correct answer. No need for any other speculation.

Scion allocated 12,000-15,000 FR-S' for 2012, S.O.A. was not expecting such high demand (duh) and allocated 6,000...so it's actually about 2 to 1..

I don't know about allocations in the USA or other countries for tht matter, but I do remember from very early it has been said pretty consistently that in the assembly line, for every 3 FRS there is 1 BRZ.

I was referring to the USA allocation only, worldwide they will build 100,000 the first year but do not break that number up between, the 86, FRS & BRZ.
