Has BRZ value tanked or am I just being lowballed?

Hmm I haven't tried to find a monogram recently. When I tried looking for a used monogram most of the dealers had just listed a base FRS incorrectly.

The NY burbs are another place where car mods are popular and when I see modded twins it's usually lowered, wide wheels/tires, exhaust and body kits. Lowering and exhaust are the most popular. It's hard to see underhood changes.

If you are driving in nyc you probably don't see much over 2k from going only about 4mph.

You guys are over-thinking it: forget KBB and other sources-- all that matters is your regional market. What cars are available? What are people asking for them? Are they selling?

Just pretend you're the buyer for an hour or two and go find your comps, then price your shit accordingly. Ultimately it doesn't matter what KBB says: your car is worth what the next guy is willing to pay for it.

and if your local market is higher realize many people will just not buy anything from it. I bought my car from someone that lived 6 hours away to get the price I wanted, and if i had to I would have gone further.

Need to consider utility as well. The car is only moderately understood as a sports car, and doesn't fill any niche completely like a Miata, Porsche, R35, etc. Wrx/Evo hold crazy value because they are widely available, can be driven I'm any environment, and are awd. No skills, foot to the floor acceleration... Brz is only amazing to patient thrillseekers, or those who enjoy the heritage. Why should the car hold value when a 2013MY car is, to 9 out of 10 people, the same car? No way I'd buy newer than 2013.. Give the car 20 years, value will be 4,300 used with 196,000 miles, 3rd engine and Takata racing harness. New age 240sx

So the average dealership is buying a 2014 BRZ at auctions in the northeast of the country around 13k. That is what it is worth to them for wholesale or trade in value. Retail on your car is likely 15k, give or take. MMR value is just a tool, it is true what others are telling you. Your car is worth what others will pay. But selling a car is always a sobering reality.

What would you pay for a 4 year old BRZ with 50k miles that was likely purchased for 25k to 27k in 2013 or early 2014.

I wouldn't pay 17k for one personally. Best of luck in your sale.

Remember when you buy private you want a deal because if something goes wrong you have no recourse but sueing in small claims court. That will be a pain. At a dealer you can return and complain and more often than not get something from them. That’s why low ballers are everywhere.

I bought mine from a dealer in Boston (while living in Colorado and "home" being California) when CA dealers were gouging the shit out of everyone. Depends how big the price disparity is.

That said, I can tell you from experience that buying long-distance is a major hassle. I did it because I wanted to go visit my sister on the east coast anyway, so it worked out that I got to buy the car and visit Mass for the same price I'd have paid to just by the car out west. And generally-speaking I'd never buy any car (least of all a used one) without visiting it in-person. You might make an exception if you were paying pennies on the dollar for something, or had a someone you trusted who could inspect it in your stead, but otherwise nope nope nope nope nope. So not everyone is going to want to go out of their way, either. I'd say only the most motivated of deal-hunters is gonna be looking at cars more than an easy day-trip's drive away from their home. That said, we have A LOT of 86's in the greater LA and SF areas, so I'd imagine the south coast is a buyer's market. Other places, who knows.

Wound up selling it today to someone who drove up from Baltimore to see the car.

Sale price was a hair over $16k.

Sad to see the car go, but I've got plenty of time to get another fun car in time.
