Header or E-85
Should I do a header and a tune or flex fuel and a tune.
Both is not a good answer. |

Is it nice? yeah. do you need an Ace 250 header? Not unless you're trying to pull every ounce of power out of it. For that kind of money you could go with a cheaper header and flex fuel.

BT hit the nail on the head - the ace headers are one of the best on the market, but there are other premium headers out there that don't quite get all the hype but perform nearly as well. I run a P&L EL long tube header and it's amazing. Big surge of power where the torque dip used to be, and a nice surge above 5500 as well. Sounds great, great build quality, option for a cat, and you can probably pick one up used from the classifieds for around 400-500 shipped. Tomei is another good brand that gives great performance with less investment, although I think I'd still prefer the long tube design of the P&L I have. Also Tomei had both EL and URL options - if you prefer the UEL sound then that might be a good option. Open flash header is another good UEL option for reasonable money.
If I were you,I'd go header and tuning first. Then if you want to run e85 all the time you just need to have a tune for both and switch. If you tune with an OFT, the tunes are free for both pump and E85. If you want to go flex fuel you can do that later for convenience. You can put the extra money into other things like rear diff upgrades, suspension upgrades, starter budget for FI Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |

Both, is the right answer...but since you don't like that let me add what I can.
I will attack this as what order you should do both these mods in. 1. Header (unless you have to worry about state emissions test, then FLEX first) 2. Flex/Tune The header should be first as long as there is not a practical reason to hold off (emissions being one of those reasons). Then later when you have more scratch you can go Flex Fuel along with header. Header/tune/Flex is a great combo and I highly recommend it. As for headers, I have purchased ACE heads twice. The fact that I went back to buy a second one should say something. But I am in a position where making the jump from $700 to $1500 for a header doesn't bother my budget. So buy the best header you can afford, and you will not have any regret in buying. Tomei is great, its what I used to run before ACE. I can't fault the header at all, especially for the money. So... 1st - Header & tune 2nd - Flex/E85 Header choice - pick a price point, buy the best in that price point. Best of luck in your build.

Header and a tune. If you can't afford the tune as well as the header then just go flex fuel.
JDL also make some damn nice headers and are cheaper then the ACE offerings.

I think a header will do a lot for drivability as it should level out the torque dip.
I started with E85 first and did the header later. Didn't really notice an increase in power with the header but the torque dip was gone for the most part marking the car much more enjoyable driving around. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I did header and tune. Wish I did it way sooner instead of 4 years later.
It has provided the extra power that makes daily driving much more enjoyable. |

I have the Delicious Flex Fuel kit and my car loves e-85. Runs so much better on e-85, not just more power but smoother all around. But I love the versatility of being able to still use gas on road trips where e-85 is not available.
