i am taking it to a subaru specialist at the local tuner shop because the dealership said there wasn't anything wrong but now my traction control won't work

Put the stock intake back then take to dealer then they will fix it, with non standard parts they will always blame those parts.

I have P0171 too, I thought my CEL was related to my Borla UEL that we just installed, but no.

Must be my intake tho... I know running lean is not great at all, but can I do a 2h drive without issue (long term too) ??

I need to get it tuned, that's where I'm going, but it's 2h from here.

Thanks

Catless headers will cause P0420 cat efficiency cel code.

P0171 is generally a problem with the MAF sensor ie dirty oily of you have oiled filter or air leak in intake. But it can also be caused by exhaust gasket leaks near the 02 sensors letting in fresh air and making the 02 sensor think the car is running lean. Or damaged 02 sensors or o2 sensors not installed correctly/cross threaded loose ect.

Always use new gaskets when installing headers the old ones will always leak if re-used.

I would not drive my car 2 hours with those cel codes active but it up to you.

I feel the same. I'm going to see if I'm able to lemon it because this is the third time it's happened. I've been communicating back and forth with the customer service from corporate, but he says to wait and see after this third repair. I really love the car, but I've gone through a lot of hassle with it already.

For some reason that I'm not going to question everything went back to normal. After I left subaru my car was running worse but as of yesterday my traction control is working again and idle is perfect. So for now I'm gana leave everything alone but if it starts acting up again the stock intake is going back on and taking it back to subaru.

Its the long term fuel trim LTFT of almost +40 % thats the problem, ltft over about 10 % usually indicates problems

MmmHamSandwich, '13 FR-S AT, 19,840 miles, 7081XX, 1 Day, Virginia

Additional:
Was literally on my way to my dealer for an unrelated issue just this morning(PS: their service center sucks) and while trying to merge with traffic the engine bogs momentarily, my traction and VSC re-enables by itself, CEL and Slip lights turn on, and the car very clearly started operating on way less power and abnormal/reluctant shift behaviors that I assume are part of limp mode.

No previous idle issues other than the cold weather stutter after initial startup. The car was recently in for fairly major service service, cam gasket leak. (Any relation?) Service manger said the ECU will need to be replaced. Was unable to get the code for myself as it happened on the way to the dealer and as you can imagine caught me unaware. Car has always been stock.

Rant:
I'm pretty pissed for three main reasons.
1. My local service center's repeated "attempts" at fixing the same issues over and over again, wasting lots of my time and days off. Along with, prior to today, their steadfast denials of a courtesy car as the thing is out of commission for weeks at a time.
2. The primary warranty literally ran out today (2 years, one day as of today)
3. The fact this issue is notorious for resurfacing, causing major problems, or requiring protracted repair times.

All this makes me just want to get rid of the damn thing. It has already spent a ton of time in the shop for repeated fix attempts for bullshit issues in addition to the cam plate leaking. Now that I am facing a serious issue I am very worried about the next steps and figure it may be time to cut my losses.

UPDATE: After 24 hours in the shop the ecu was replaced. Will update if further complications arrise.

Here are the service notes left for this issue:

Unofficial - CEL/SL/Idle Issue List for FR-S/BRZ Owners

I have this issue too, 2013 FR-S Series 10 "number 1196". I get hunt for idol, sometimes check engine, sometimes loss of traction control, and worst is it stalls regularly at traffic lights.

The dealer has replaced the ignition coil, it's better but still happening. Taking it back to the dealer Saturday.

I'm in Georgia, 32k miles

I had my computer replaced 1 month after buying my '13 FRS. It sat at the dealer 3 weeks and I drove it for one week the entire first month I owed it. Stalled dead, traction control light on, Idle issues..factory in Japan sent wrong computer. . Then finally got it right. Not one issue since.

I was able to lemon my vehicle and got a 2015 Series Blue BRZ as a replacement. SOA gave the okay after I got my car back after the third repair. I actually had to bring it in again for the same CEL a fourth time while finalizing the replacement process with SOA.
