Pressure Regulator needed for Foam Cannon?
I've been wanting to get a foam cannon setup put together for easy washes since my car is ceramic coated.
I got a Ryobi 3100 psi pressure washer over the winter and I'm wondering if there is a type of pressure regulator I should be using with a foam cannon as a safety precaution. I'm new to all of this and don't want to do something stupid. Also open to recommendations on specific foam cannons, I've read a few articles but haven't really seen anything definitive. |

Just pop off the quick connect nozzle tip and put the foam cannon on. Not much else to it. I use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075R2LTFR...NsaWNrPXRydWU=
I put about 1-2" of soap in it and fill the rest with water. They usually require a certain minimum pressure but I've never heard of too much pressure. They are usually brass fittings and 3100 is not that crazy. Maybe putting the cannon onto a high psi unit is over kill but all you'd have to do is turn down the throttle. I run that foam cannon on an Ryobi electric 1600 psi unit bought just for foaming the car and it works fine so dropping your throttle some would work. Now I'm wondering if I hook up my 4200 psi unit to it, what would happen. Maybe the best foam ever? Can there be too much foam!! |

I do not know the Ryobi unit but believe it is similar to my Subaru unit (without the WRX shaped engine cover of course) in that it has a soap nozzle. The soap nozzle reduces pressure considerably so there is no risk just using that as a foam cannon.

No special things needed. Honestly my basic simoniz 1600 electronic does just fine with the cheap included foam cannon attachment. $130 on sale a while ago.
I used regular car soap(meguiars gold class) and specific foam cannon soap(auto glym polar blast). The snow foam when measured to the same amount went on thicker and had more lubricity to it. You could feel the sickness on your wash mitt while washing. That being said adding more regular car wash soap to the mixture would likely accomplish the same result |
