People get way too hung up over badges/brands IMO. The brand you drive doesn't define who you are.

True, and I did say that. I find it interesting that Dodge is younger on average.

I might just start referring to my car as "the Platypus" because it's just a weird mix of everything :p

I think it's the best of all worlds too. That's why I bought one. Great looks, great handling, great price, and enough power to have fun with while still averaging 28 mpg. I own one, so I'm not just blindly hating on the car. I am just aware of it's shortcomings and reputation.
I guess it's all a matter of expectations and where we choose to focus. I bet 240Z owners had the same exact debates back in the day.

The first year or so Scion was available, it did have an average age of around 35 according to some stats I saw, but that quickly increased as more older folks bought into the tC as a decent alternative to more feature packed cars and many liked the xB because it provided practical hauling capacity for empty nesters that didn't need baseball team seating any longer.

Below is the industry data by brand and the source article. Scion is definitely one of the younger ones, but it's still higher than most people think.

Why? Well remember most people under the age of about 21 and maybe even 25 (yes there are exceptions) are not car OWNERS, but drivers.

By the way, the second chart is not new, but all cars, based on registration. Note that Scion is slowly creeping up. I also think the average age of Bugatti is interesting, although not surprising.
That data is for new purchases and probably leases also. I'm almost sure for used cars, the average age of Scion buyers is way younger.

Younger buyers typically aren't in a sound enough financial situation for new car purchases to make sense so they end up buying used models which are obviously cheaper. And that is not reflected in that chart.

This.

All the 'scion' badging and logos are removable, but 'subaru' is stamped into the engine bay, trunk, door jams....

So it's more a subaru at heart. At least...that's what I have to tell myself

The loud dub step music, white sunglasses and flat bills to the side begs to differ.

The first chart is new buyers, the second chart is registered owners, at least according the Polk website.

The other piece of it is the manufacturers don't care about the median age of used car buyers, although dealers might.

NOTE THIS IS NOT MY PERSONAL OPINION:
It's not uncommon for their cars to be known as rice wagons and such because it is geared toward younger owners who like to fart can them, most of this spawns from the TC. Its one of those car companies where if your girlfriend said "Oh my god the TC is so nice!" you'd be like . Also the way they market front wheel drive underpowered re badged and bodied toyota corollas as sport cars as cool tuner vehicles strike a hate cord among people i.e creating a poser car that young people are supposed to fall in love with.

On the flipside I doubt the U.S.D.M. would have gotten the FR-S had scion not existed.

It's fairly common to see them it's just they are hated by a lot of people for some odd reason. Also when I was little Scion had just come out and marketed them as modding cultured cars and such saying aftermarket parts were good which in turn created quite a few ricer vehicles.....
fart can...lol.....thats a first time hearing that...lol....I like it... around here...the locals fat can the chev cobalts and old neons..

Then I have to explain for half an hour that it's a Subaru engine, Subaru chassis, Subaru brakes, Toyota transmission, Toyota body design, Toyota fuel pump. But it's built at Subaru's plant.

Then I pop the hood and doors and show them the Subaru VIN tags.

Fun to watch them walk away puzzled but amazed.
good one..lol
i just say ..its half a toyota and half subaru.....then the confusion look warms over into a comfortable yaaaayy...lol
