First drive of Scion FR-S in Charlotte,NC. My impressions....
Today i got a call early from Scott Clark Toyota in regards to the FR-S. They made a appointment with me for 7 PM to check out the car. After work, i went straight there, and was greeted by the sales lady, who was very nice.
Anyways, we went out to go look at the FRS, but it was gone because they were making a video. They came back, and when i saw the car roll by, looked amazing ! Anyways, so i got to drive the car. First of all, the car feels solid. Quality interior, and the seats felt amazing. True bucket seats. The dash, speedo, everything looked great, felt great. The low center of gravity was amazing, i felt low, and snug. The interior is small, but its bigger than what i actually thought it was going to be like. I drove a silver AT. Drive - Solid handling, power isnt bad, 200 HP seems decent. Sounds GREAT. the AT paddle shifting was nice, but the handling, was amazing. The car sticks to the ground like no other, no body roll whatsoever. Overall i like it. For what it is, its great. I want to go get the BRZ though...for a little more money you get more things i.e HID, LED, NAV etc etc. Impressed though. Their sticker price was close to 26-27k. I'm pretty sure it was you who drove it right before my wife and I did (we were the ones with the black Genesis coupe)
If so, then it was nice chatting with you! |

Sales. The amount of Americans that can't drive a stick shift is staggering. Keep in mind that there are going to be many people looking at purchasing an FR-S, especially women, because it's "cute" ...not because it's a well-performing car. |

It will only get worse as most manufacturers are dropping manuals from their popular mid size sedands, and even many compacts seem to only be found with automatics. We are also starting to see automatics get better gas mileage than manuals (at least through the EPA tests, which are not the best measure by the way, as I can always come in way over EPA numbers with a manual). My kids will learn how to drive a stick. If you ever travel to Europe it is almost a must. |
