The other alignment tool I've been eyeballing and trying to justify, or figure out a way to attach some tubing to the wheels is this:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/qta-90011/overview/

Part of me says "make it yourself". The other part of me says screw it and spend my time swapping out the front bar, or finishing the front axle for my Jeep.

As for bars, how do you guys like the Stanos bar? Seems to be the best compromise at dialing out some oversteer while still keeping a little bit. Previous car was/is (still have it) a 91 Civic Si that I used to run STS in about 8 years ago.

NM, read John's build, Amazon had the 19mm Perrin bar for 187.00. 1 click, done.

Quick tire size question!

Has anyone tried the Z2 in 245/45-17 size? The gearing from the taller tire looks attractive. Just worried about the sidewalls, as supposedly the Z1 Star Spec's sidewalls were way soft in the 245/45 size vs the 245/40...

Has anyone tested the waters on this size with the Z2's yet?

A little late to the alignment chat party, but I use the Smart String System and love it:

Toe plates are nice for quick toe measurements but aren't incredibly accurate and there is no way to check thrust angle, only net toe.

Sean, I tried the 235/45s Z1s when I first got my car, and my only memory is how much better the 235/40s felt when I put them on next.

Thanks Des!! Do you remember if the sidewalls seemed floppy or soft? Were you having any roll-over issues?

I just took delivery of the 17x7 42mm RPF1's and 235/40-17 ZII's. I may regret it as we used to get some really fast courses in the west lot at Qualcom Stadium. It's been awhile since I've had good rubber. The civic has a set of worn out 615's on it as those were the tire 5-6 years ago. (what happened?)

My first event is July 5/6, planning on C Street. I have the Perrin bar and crash bolts going on this weekend as well as an alignment. We'll see how I do.

Floppy, no. Soggy is a better word. No rollover issues but nothing about the them felt like an invitation to experiment with lower pressures. (If my old notes are right it was about 4 pounds higher than the 235s.)

I've ran back to back on 235/40 and 235/45 ZIIs at Peru during a TNT. The 235/45s felt like a dog off the line but I felt like they turned in better than the more pinched 235/40. lap times showed basically nothing between them... I ended about a tenth and a half faster on the 235/45s... But those were mounted on the rpf1s whereas the 235/40s were on OE wheels. IMO The rotational mass difference was atleast worth that .15... I'm planning to put the 235/40s on the rpf1s before Toledo this weekend and will run those at Nats... Might run the 235/45s on the OE wheels at Peru... Not 100% on that yet

How did the 235/45s feel vs the 235/40 on slaloms? Did you notice any significant width difference between the two?

Did you have to run different pressures between the two to make them work?

Pressure wise I was about 2 PSI higher on the 45A/R. The 45s, aside from making the car feel extremely slow to accelerate, actually felt more composed and predictable. With the reduced torque, I was getting flat on the gas much earlier and the grip was better making up for some of the acceleration deficiency. I will be taking the wheels off here as soon as I am done typing this, so I'll take a few pictures.

With all that said... I still think the 40 is the correct way to go >90% of the time, there may just be that <10% where the course layout favors speed maintanence and has a spot or two where the extra 2MPH in 2nd gear saves you from having to shift. I think the wheel mass over-penalized the 235/40 in my test. I'd like to replicate the test after swapping them to the other wheels, but don't have a TNT event coming up at all where I could.

Here are the pictures, let me know if this link doesn't work publicly.

Yeah, sorry, my hands are generally pretty shakey and it is about a 25% chance that any picture I take on my phone turns out not blurry. I'll replace it when I realign the car this weekend.

So after reading a bunch of things about tires, I still dont know what I should get. My main concern is if they work well cramming a 235/245 on a 7 inch rim for autoX. I"m pretty aggressive on the gas if that makes a difference.

Setup:
-1 degree front camber
Koni Yellow Shocks.

I've narrowed it down to the AD08R (which we are allowed to run in C street next year in Canada since Yoko is a tire sponsor), R1R (same comment as AD08R), RS3, Rivals, Z2 which I want to get in a 235 or 245 wide size...if they fit....not sure if 245 will clear the shocks. I'm running +42 offset.

These are my opinions from what I've read...they may or may not be truth since I dont know...I"ve only driven on Z1's...so correct me if I"m wrong.

AD08R: dont know too much about this tire except that the sidewalls are stiff and they perform well according to reviews

R1R: mushy tires...havent read too much on if wide tires on a narrow rim works too well with these tires

RS3: mushy tires, they're sticky but cycle out quickly. Do they work well if you cram a 235/245 on a narrow rim?

Rivals: heard mostly good things about them. Good review on cramming 235/245s on 7" rim.

Z2: heard mostly good things about them. Good review on cramming 235/245s on 7" rim.

Comments are appreciated!
