I'd much rather have the GR Yaris.

3 more horses, 29 less torques, but also 200 lbs lighter. AWD, 6-spd, dual LSD, and room for luggage in the back. But by all means, shuffle some Bimmer metal around; another swing and a miss from Toyota.

How many publications and internet sites have reported dyno results that show that the Supra makes much more horsepower than the claimed 335? Maybe they just had to report lesser power due to an agreement with BMW for the first year but now are free to tell it like it is. The Supra did beet the M2 Competition in a Motortrend head to head comparison.

"The increased output results from a slew of upgrades throughout the engine. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, improves heat management. A new piston design reduces the engine’s compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1.

The greatly revised engine produces higher torque at higher rpm and retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness. Toyota projects that the new engine will reduce the Supra 3.0 model’s 0-60 acceleration time to 3.9 seconds, from 4.1. The 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters carries over for 2021."

Also got updated suspension.

No they're putting in the higher spec engine, until proven otherwise assume all bmw engines built after about 2010 or so make claimed engine hp at the wheel under reasonable conditions.

So in other words the Z4's version of the B58.

Honestly, I can't blame the 2020 Supra owners asking for compensation; only one model year and already upgrading almost everything on it would certainly piss people off. Why couldn't they have gone with this from the get-go?

Would I be pissed if I bought the initial production and this came a year later? Sure you bet I would.
Would I run around screaming "unfair" and demanding compensation? No since I bought the car early knowing there could be changes within the first year or two. There are ALWAYS changes in the first few years of any new model.

Will be fun to see how many times the words "entitled", "deserve" and "owe" come up in the petition comments.

They didn't because the same group of early adapters were screaming "I want it NOW or not at all".

It would truly suck to be in that spot but we can not expect the car companies to compensate every person that is impacted by a change.

If that's the case, we'll just start calling them "Oopra owners."

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't be happy about it either. Coming from the motorcycle world I am used to drastic year to year updates

All things being said and done, I still believe Toyota should offered the Supra with the updated B58 from the start, since BMW had that motor already. It makes me wonder if something happened behind the scenes that prevented the higher horsepower motor from going into the 2020 Supra.

Though I guess it probably won't matter if BMW introduces a Z4 M hardtop and/or Toyota introduces an M-powered Supra in the years to come. Then we'll see a lot of petitions like these.

From the mid 50s to the late 70s it was pretty much the norm for cars to have large increases from one year to the next. It was so normal that people just lived with the idea that the next year may hold bigger and better things and didn't scream "unfair" at the clouds.

The entire concept that it is somehow "unfair" that the manufacturers would improve their product one year to the next is foreign to me. I mean what industry doesn't do "new and improved" from laundry detergent all the way up to skyscraper builders.

I wouldn't buy from a company that didn't improve their product over time.
