Chirping/Cricket Fix Out?

Just got off the phone with my service rep at Holman Toyota/Scion in New Jersey. He said that he knows about the chirping problem, and said it could be due to using incorrect octane gas. I assured him that I've run only 93 octane.

I asked him if there was a new part out that could provide a PERMANANT fix to the chirping issue. He checked his system or whatever and said that there was!

He said that it was the same part #.... but that it was indeed a new, different part. Is that possible?

Please post if you've received similar answers, or if you no longer have chirping because of a new part installed by the dealer. I have an appointment with them Saturday afternoon, so I can provide an update after it's done, and after, of course, driving around for a few hundred miles.

If the chirp fix is true and permanant... I'm throwing a house party to celebrate lol. :happy0180:

You mean this?

It's not a true fix. And frankly I wouldn't bother with this "fix" as it has no adverse effects on driving, fuel consumption, etc.

I'm not going to spend my time taking the car to the dealer, for a fix that isn't a fix. Mine has been chirping since my first oil change at ~1600 miles, and I've driven it to Jackson WY and back and have over 8200 miles with no difference in performance, mileage, or fun.

Will wait till end of warranty period to get whatever the factory "fix" is.

My dealer told me there was a fix. That I should bring it in.
This forum says otherwise.
I prefer to wait until it's out and proven.

Hey guys. I know... I've been told that the crickets don't affect performance or anything, but the sounds just makes it sound so.... old. Like my old s13 lol. Or it sounds like I have a loose belt or something. I just want it to be a little quieter. Unfortunately, my service rep already ordered the part. Said it'd be a 2 1/2 hr job. I have nothing to do so I'll wait there. Read a book or something while they work on my car. I guess I can be this forum's guinea pig for the "new" part lol. Will keep you guys updated.

I wouldn't do the cricket noise fix. There have been a couple fires due to incorrect installation of the new high pressure fuel pump and I've known a couple guys that developed shorts in their electrical systems (requiring wiring harness replacement) because the techs botched the jobs. Plus, in most cases the noise returns.

The Cricket sound pisses me off to no end but not as much as taking my car to the dealer over and over.

I will trade up to a newer model as soon as there is one without crickets but I've just learned to deal. I never thought I'd say that as I really REALLY hate that my car makes that sound but I know it's not hurting anything.

My dealer told me to bring it in because there were new part numbers. Picked up the car and 200 miles later they were back, worse. I'm just going to live with it at this point because they chipped my paint and I still had crickets. It was a lose-lose

I've personally have had the pump replaced three times each with the noise returning after 1000 miles. I gave up on trying to getting it fixed. Honestly it's whatever. Just get a UEL header and catback. Problem solved.
