Consensus on Delicious Tuning Coil Packs? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

My son and I are starting a build of a 2013 FR-S and we are doing all of the preventative maintenance items to make sure we have a good baseline for things like a JRSC later. I know the 13's seem to have coil issues from what I've read, but there seems to be two questions I have:

1) Do we do the coil pack harness upgrade proactively? I know it's a bunch of work, but I'm not afraid of it per se. Or just replace the coils on an almost 10 year car and call it good.
2) Are the Delicious Tuning high cap coils worth the extra money? I would assume you can get a little more juice in a tune from them, but perhaps negligible?

I tried the search, but didn't have a lot of luck. Thanks!

I have a '13 FRS that has gone over 200,000 miles on the original coils. No problems at all ever.

So....
Not all '13's have a coilpack issue.

I have almost 100k and dozens and dozens of track days. Have only lost one coil pack when I went to Thunderhill.

When the time go for sparkplug change, I may consider to swap coils pack... idk if that make sense or put the money on fuel filter

Yeah. Not splooging $850 for four coils.
Seems to be overkill for light duty fun and convenience.

170k miles on my 2013 and still on the original coil packs. They seem reliable.

It's not like these cars are older Audis/VWs where it's a prerequisite to carry an extra coil pack or 2 in your car at all times.

I just ended up buying the revised 2015+ coilpacks (~$100 for 4) off of eBay off of a low/medium mileage wrecker and a set of harness adapters.

If I need to buy more coilpacks sooner, I don't mind since it's hundreds cheaper than new or aftermarket

I'm on JDL turbo and I had loss of power past a specific RPM/PSI. Turned out that a coil pack was the issue, went ahead and got new spark plugs while they were there. I honestly didn't even know coil packs were a thing to watch.

just as an fyi 2013-2015 mid way through the MY had an issue with the harness. it mostly affects the front most coil on the passenger side. catless headers and heat is what kills the coil. I have been through a few since tracking the FRS regularly. I can extend the coil pack by use gold foil tape on the exposed part. it helps but still fails. OEM is just fine

My feeling from what I seen online so all second hand as I have not dealt with it myself is that heat is causing the harness connector to loosen and the coil pack themselves are fine.

You can see when they changed the coil pack harness they added a locking connector I assume this is why.
