Water's gonna be entering from the front, and be going through the oil cooler anyways. I wouldn't worry about water entering from the rear.

Good point. I still want to louver it though, the assortment of stuff I pulled out from in there is just hilarious.

That's all stuff that got in through your front grill opening

A couple times I went into my garage to find the IC water pump running, even though I hadn't driven the car in days. Once I turned the car on and then back off and it stopped. I figured it was a fluke, but now it happened for a third time (that I happened to notice) and stayed on for quite a while. I also noticed it seems to coincide with when the car is doing it's periodic pumping of something into the exhaust system (possibly something else, but I think that's what it does?).

I wonder if this is why I get slow cranking when starting the car sometimes, maybe it's wearing down the battery?

Anyone else notice this?

I have had a similar issue a couple of times. I went to my garage about 20 min after parking the car and heard it running. Opened the hood and also noticed my delicious flex fuel box led was blinking. Put the key in and turned to acc then back. Then pump shut off soon after. I had it happen another time when I did not come back from driving. Had only turned the key on to play with my blue tooth and it continued running after key was off. I sat for 5 min to see what would happen. It stopped once I cycled the key again.

I really don't like how the dang thing turns on when the motor is not running. It seems like it is a unnecessary drain on the power when trying to start up.

I wanted to pass along a issue we had with our car / Deatsch Werks DW300 fuel pump starting last week. It may be worth making a stand alone post about, but I figured It was worth bringing up here.

For about a week or two my girlfriend told me that the car seemed to take a little longer to turn on than usual. I figured that the battery was just starting to get a bit weak. On e-85 she was having cold start problems and a little bit of a issue of the car trying to die when coming to a stop. So we decided to run on 91. If I recall correctly the longer crank to start up may have been at the same time we went back to 91. Anyhow last Thursday she called on her lunch and said that the car had a horrible idle. Like it was flooding or running on 1/2 the cylinders. She said that the car ran perfect while driving. (I wont go in to why she decided to try and drive it with the issue.)

Skip forward to taking it to my shop. They saw that it asking for max fuel trim and afr was way low. Opened up and looked at the DW pump and fount that it popped a O ring causing it to leak in tank. They fixed the issue and all is well. Starts up perfect.
The car still likes to try and die when coming to a stop, bit it may be tune/flywheel issue separate from the pump.

TLDR. Fuel pump popped O ring causing bad idle. Fixed now ok.

Here's my "stealth" oil cooler

Took me a couple passes of hacking up that cover to fit with out taking off the bumper, but I got it on there. Plus, now its removable just in case I want more flow (just gently yank it off!).

I'll be doing a track day at Sonoma Raceway (Infeneon) on Mon and will update with track data.
I've been tossing up this idea actually. I don't want to block my LTR and the only other option is to mount it flat in the under tray, which seems like a good place to have a freak accident. Good stuff.

Then add the supercharger and I should be able to easily push 400+ on E85. Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't being completely delusional.
The harrop car has the HKS stroker kit, running 17psi (65mm pulley) boost and with E85 its pushing about 380WHP

The max boost of these TVS units is 21psi so I'd expect about 420WHP when maxing out the boost on E85.

So far it works "really well" on the street, getting and staying relatively warm (~175-190F) and not over-cooling on the freeway, so no need to block it off. The question is will it be good enough for HDPE duty.

I'll admit I'm no hot shoe and I don't really hammer on the car very hard even at the track but I'm a little worried that the relatively smaller exposed area and the steep angle (had to mount it that way to accommodate the washer fluid tank) which directs the cooling fins at ~45 deg from the air path, may not be enough.

I guess the data will tell, nothing better than a little R&D

There's a very easy test for that. Sit at high RPMs for an extended period of time on the highway. Cruising in 3rd at normal highway speeds is a pretty good test, as sitting at 6-6.5k RPMs sustained is a fairly accurate simulation for oil temp loading.

I thought Edelbrock stated these things were good to about 500hp?

Did they specify wheel or crank horsepower? 420RWHP would be in that neighborhood at the crank.

On pump gas you'll get around 400hp with any tvs unit. You could use the next size up blower bit the problem is the max pressure ratio is 2.5bar (1.5bar boost or 21psi) so you'll end up spinning the bigger blower slow to ahcieve the same boost as this unit.

So with that boost limitation in mind with 1.5bar, you'll get around 350whp on pump.

The harrop car is around 380whp ok e85 which is about 320whp on pump gas, running a pressure ratio of 2.2bar so thats close to the max.

But it's not just about boost but CFM We all know that 2 turbos can produce the same boost but very different power due to flow. Doesn't the same ring true here?
